Im not a nurse, but im considering it.(18 years old)
I know that in nursing school you only have time for studying because of the intense work load. But how does that change once you have a job?
I personally have a passion for drawing, and after not drawing for about 2 years, im slowly getting back into it and realizing how much I love it. A small percentage of me would want to go to art school, but it doesn't seem to offer much stability. I definitely want to have enough time to draw, perhaps do freelance work, take art classes, etc and basically still enjoy life. I wouldn't want my life to revolve around nursing, and i'd be broken hearted if I couldnt do art as much as I'd like to.
So...what do you guys like to do outside of work? How do you manage a work/personal life balance?
If you expect to do well in nursing school, you should never have to pull an all nighter. Planning ahead and organizing your time is essential. Your brain needs adequate sleep. Start the readings and assignments early.
Many of my friends (myself included) worked during school and got As without sacrificing our lives or sleep. Make a study schedule in advance and stick to it. Knowing how you learn is also important because everyone is different.
In my spare time I travel, read, go to the gym, run outside. I'm currently taking a statistics course in preparation for grad school.
Hi,I enjoy road and mountain biking, riding my motorcycle (although as I get older I get more and more nervous doing that), target shooting (nothing like shooting a 12 G for stress relief, and yes I am a woman!), hiking, and I am hoping to start kayaking soon! I HATE sitting around the house so as you can see my hobbies all involved getting out of the house!
Also go on a 2-3 cruises a year, although it has been one a year for the last couple of years while a get through my RN-BSN (2 more classes in the fall!)

I trap shoot too! Such a good stress reliever and tons of fun! Love my 12 ga. :)

I hike, ride my bike, go to the gym, drink beer, hang out with friends, draw, sculpt, watch movies with my 14 yo son, hang out with my hubby, whatever I wanna do. Work weekend nights so 4 days off great for any adventure. Unless Im doing OT!
I'm 31. I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was 18 then I met my husband and had kids instead of going to design school. I was a hair stylist for 11 years. It was a job I intended on keeping to get me through fashion school. After deciding to forgo fashion, I went into interior design, graphic design and multimedia.
My husband's a photographer which I did with him for a couple years. Two years ago I started taking general classes toward a degree I didn't really know at the time. I switched to art and found that I really enjoyed it but wasn't good enough to make a living out of it. I briefly switched my sights to occupational therapy and landed in the CNA program to get accepted into a medical major whether it's nursing or Ota or pta. I love the Healthcare field and find it very physically demanding and know that I won't be able to do what I'm doing for more than a couple years bease its exhausting but I'm happy for the experience.
The patient contact is my favorite part of my job. Listening to the stories that the residents have and getting thank yous for doing simple things. The poop is gross but part of the job. One of the cons that come along with the pros. :)
I still do my art and find it more satisfying doing it on my own rather than for a grade or critique. I still hope to get in a gallery someday even if it's a small local one. :) stick with your art. You'll be able to fit it in if it's important to you.
I also crochet and run and do yoga. :)
