Hello everyone, I just recently decided to pursue a BSN. I just graduated with a Bachelors in History/Minor in Education and then all of a sudden, 3 weeks ago, I decided to go back to school 1) because nursing is what i originally wanted to do, and 2) because during my internship for my last degree i realized it just wasnt for me. Anyway..... i registered and this is what I'm taking. I have no other option because these are the only prerequisites i have left.
(fall)
AP1
Microbiology
Chemistry
Fundamentals of Nutrition
Im leaving AP2 for the summer
I know its going to be difficult but I'm usually a good student. (I graduated with a 3.8 this past May) I don't work but i have 2 kids (3 and 1) and I'm 2 months pregnant. My husband and mom have always been a great help throughout my education but it still worries me that these classes are going to be too difficult. Are they hard or are they just time consuming? Am i crazy for taking all these courses at once? Which ones do i need to watch out for the most? Im soooooo scared
Micro and chem was a breeze for me, A&P was the challenging one and nutrition was just a pain due to the ridiculous amount of busy work. If you are good with the sciences, you should be fine. If not, cut back on a class. It is better to do earn high marks and do it slow than rushing through it and getting B's (which I'm guessing isn't going to earn you a spot in the nursing program).
I am starting pre-nsg coursework too after being out of science classes for 30+ years! I've signed up for A&P1, Chem. 1+lab, and another allied health course.
I was tempted to take another course in math to total 15 hours rather than 12, but wanted to take it a bit slow to start out. I did take Chemistry and Micro "way back when" and remembered the intensity of the labs, etc.
I know that A&P is a LOT of memorization. I'd suggest dropping the Micro for now or maybe the nutrition. Of course this is me and my cautionary approach to getting back into going to college again.
BTW, I'm terrified too! Good luck to you!
I am currently taking a summer course in Nutrition and it is kind
of difficult for me but that's because its a 5-week course
so the information is really condensed. I have a test every week.
I average about high 70s on the tests but with the extra credit essays I get
around B to B+ range. I think you can handle nutrition since its all really
memorization anyway.
But everyone is saying micro will be hard...but if you really want it, you can do it!
I think nursing clinicals would be even harder.
Do you have full time daycare? I have never had daycare except for preschool hours that only included some of my class time and found that 2 classes was all I could handle without needing a babysitter.
A&P alone can be like a full time job if you need an A depending on the teacher you get.
That looks like a really hectic schedule, plus being pregnant and 2 young kids. I wouldn't do it. Science is a different beast, even if you are a good student. It takes tremendous amount of study time. With competition as tough as it is, I would be more calculating and not make my schedule that hectic to ensure I get top grades in all those classes.
Good luck to you.

I do have full time daycare. My mom will watch them the days that my husband works. I've already warned her that i'd be going to school for long hours on some days. Tues and Thurs i go in at 1030 and get out at 720.

I thought Micro was the easiest of the science classes... and if you dont have a lab it should be fine. A&P is not so bad either if you can memorize things well, and Chem is pretty easy if you are good at algebra.. Also, a lot of material from these classes DOES overlap, so once you learn it for one class, you should already know it when it comes up again in the other class...
Just stay focused, it will be time consuming, but its doable. good luck!!!
