I realize that there are many post aking what to do to prepare for NS. However, I start NS on Aug. 29 and this summer I am currently taking two classes: Micro and Human Growth. I started my prereqs in the fall of 09 and this is my second summer taking summer class and to be honest, I need a break. I have 4 children and my husband works 70 hours a week. So taking care of the kids and the house all falls onto me, which I am not complaining because my husband knows I can only do so much! With that said, my Final is July 18th and then I will get about a five week break. So what would you do in those five short weeks? I do want to practice a little dosage calculations though because I am terrified of math!
Relax and enjoy. Just chiming in. I finished my first year and am so thankful to have the summer off to just chill. I s'pose I could read ahead - I think they'll be putting up a reading list as we get closer to fall term starting but I won't get ramped up until the week before. Enjoy the time with your kids when your patience is still intact. Get a couple of romantic nights in with the DH. That's the best way to prepare.
You are so lucky that you get your summer off! It was advised for us to take one or two nursing classes next summer that way we will have an easier load once we start back again. If I do go this route, that will be my third summer with taking classes.
Well, I did breakdown and buy me the Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students book. I will look this over before class starts. To be honest, my biggest worry is the test questions. Give me 300 index cards and I will memorize them. In fact, I have done that before. So this will be a whole new world when it comes to testing and I hope that I will be able to catch on!

Now you have to learn, not memorize
Now you have to learn, not memorize
I know, I am so scarred! LOL!! Memorizing has always been my greatest feature! I go to a university, but I attend one of the branches. However, on Aug. 19th we are to attend this Thinking Skills Workshop at the main campus. It's supposed to get us ready for these types of questions. I hope it works! I can't wait to where I get to the point that I am spurting out info. because I learned it and not memorized it.

Well, that settles it; I think I will just relax.
I just didn't know if I should get ahead start with reading any particular books or not. I had my first orientation last week and we didn't go over any books that were needed yet. I do plan to stock the freezer though. The kids can help cook/bake so that will be a nice project for us!
