What would be the estimated starting salary in Flordia?

Published

Hello My name is Phil and I am currently a nursing student in Chicago Illinois. Basically the purpose of this post was to inquire about starting salary for a male nurse that has a BSN in Flordia. The reason I am curious is because the winter's in Chicago are far to annoying and I was thinking of moving to Flordia to pursue my career. Thank You for your time :uhoh3:

Do the males that move to admin get paid more, or just move to a different job and keep somewhat the same $?

I believe ANYONE who goes over to administration pays more. Although I believe it's a salaried position.

I was just saying that the majority of male nurses don't stay long as bedside nurses for whatever reason.

just don't go to any hca hospitals. working for them is the pits! i worked 25 years in the same hospital in st. petersburg and it wasn't bad until hca bought it. they also bought up most of the other hospitals in town and closed down the smaller ones for less competition, so you really didn't have much chance to leave and go to a non-hca hospital.

am a ca rn thinking about moving to florida. wondering if a "magnet hospital" in florida has a good nurse/patient ratio like we have here in ca.

I was just recently offered a position at a hospital in Pensacola with pay at 19.50. For Pensacola, that is good. Moving back from Bradenton, I was NOT expecting that. I made 20.23 in Bradenton at an HCA facility. The reason I moved back to P'cola from Bradenton is the cost of homes in B'ton are 2-3 times the ones here in P'cola.

So, I'm actually coming out wayyyy ahead. :lol2:

For once in my life, something is coming out right.

Average starting cost for NEW nurses is about $20/hr. I will just say yes there is a difference in how much male and females make even in the nursing field. I just read the other day the average diff. is about $20,000 more for a male than a family of the same exp. for Nurse pactitioners. I think if you don't push for equality in pay you arent going to get it. Know your worth and dont settle for less.

all of you hard working nurses in florida need to realize what you are worth--the hospitals cannot run without you--unionizing is the way to go-- i am from ny--many were resistant in my hosp to the thought of a union until administration stated they were going to take away the retirees health benefits--after we got the nysna in, our salaries went up significantly and we have gotttern a $3000 raise every year, plus experience diff up to 22 years--you have more power than you realize--use it!!! last contract we kept our free health benefits---

While I agree that the pay is lower, I do not agree with the blanket statement that the conditions/ratios are poorer. Yes, maybe with some hospitals, but not all. For example, at the hospital that I work at (SMH) the day ratio is 5 pts to 1 nurse and at night 6 pts to 1 nurse. There are also to PCAs and a unit secretary to 3:30 am.

Goodness I would still be nursing as well as several of my RN & LPN friends if we could find this ratio anywhere here in SW florida.:o
