What is easy RN job to get for new grad

Published

 Can someone tell me what is easy or easier jobs to get for someone like me??

Me: 39 years old male, Ex-Navy, ADN, New grad, 1 year volunteer experience at hospital, and DUI (3years ago)

Lives in Midwest area.

With DUI and lack of experience, I know it will be hard to find a job. But there must be jobs that are not so poplular therefore it might be easier for me to get. I am thinking about ,,,,maybe, mental care facility, Prison, Home care,,,,???!! I am willing to take any shift, pay and job. I just need a JOB!!!

Please give me advice. Thanks!

don't know why "easy" is part of your question. No such thing in nursing. And DUI is not always a deterrent, as long as you have a license. Easy means it meets your expectations. Working in a prison would not be easy for me, but if it meets your expectations then maybe so.

GOOD LUCK. I know this is hard decision time.

I'm sure the OP did not mean "easy" in the traditional sense, more so for lack of a better word I am sure. He's been through a nursing program and thus he knows what's not easy, so he need not be whipped for choosing the wrong word on a message board. I know what he meant, more like what's the area of nursing that seems to have the most opportunity for new graduates despite the economy. I am sure lots of people these days would like to know that as well.

Well said Paco. :yeah: I'm thinking any area that has postings for the night shift.. every time I look at available jobs, they always want people for the 7pm to 7am slot. Good luck!

Yes, I meant "Easy to get job" not "Easy work".

English is my second laungage so please excuse me if I did not make myself clear.

So I guess it's easier to get Home care job than hopsital job,,,that is what I was expecting.

How about hospice? Psychiatric facility? or other job opotunity that I am not aware of,,,,.

Thanks in advance.

If it's just a paycheck that you're concerned about this advice may be moot. However if you're also hoping to find job satisfaction, be careful. (I understand you mean "easy" as to get your foot in the door)

There's actually quite a few ltc's in my area that are constantly hiring, even new grads and the pay is actually better than most. The types of cases that they take on and the demands that they make of their nurses not only leave most unhappy, some are at risk of having their licenses suspended. So I'm glad I didn't go the "easy" route.

I work at a ltc/snf that's actually pretty hard to get into unless you started there or had an "in" somehow. I definately lucked out in the world of ltc's but it's not without it's trials.

Even though I knew it'd be hard work, I have an even greater respect for the nurses that can make the commitment to ltc. I'm undecided if I can stay in this atmosphere, however I know I need to think long and hard before jumping to a hospital as many that do, try to return and there's generally no space for them to be rehired.

What I'm saying is be careful if you can get into an "easy" situation as there may be a good reason it's so "easy" to get in. And you may have wished you held out for something else. Good luck to you.

I just accepted a job at a LTC facility. Graduated BSN in may, and passed my NCLEX in December, after I waited a bit to take it. I started this last monday, and after 5 days, I don't think I can go back monday. THere are so many violations in the particular place, it's horrible. I feel like the care is so substandard. The DON recently quit, the administrator quit, the nurse manager on my unit quit as well as another nurse I worked with, she just put in her notice. This is all after a for profit company took over a non-profit LTC. There is a lot of unrest amongst the staff, and I have literally heard NOTHING BUT bad things. From countless people. It's the topic of conversation all day.

So I've decided it's best I not work there, and I'd rather go back to serving tables until I find something better. I would prefer a hospital, although I'm not "too good" for a LTC facility. I could work there I think. But this place, was a total hell hole. I feel horible for the residents/patients there. And I'm not willing to have my license be in jeopardy if the company puts too much work on my shoulders, and it becomes easier to make errors. For a new grad, that's way too much. I don't want to go down with this place. I don't even want to list it on my resume. It'd be more of an embarassment that I was even affiliated, even for 5 days.

So I've learned something too good to be true. Is.

I was hired after the first interview. No references were checked. I was never given a drug test. How ridiculous!!!!! I mean really. I know they verified my licensure at least. But geeeze!!!

If you know what aspect of nursing appeals to you then I would say go for that job because you are more likely to be more productive in a job you like versus a job that easily fell into your lap. You will never know what job you may get until you apply. LTC is a great area of nursing to go into, yet I say look at your long term goals if you have available job openings in your area.

Easy? I dunno... it's subjective. I wouldn't list your DUI on your resume'. Easy to find jobs? Try nursing homes.
