What is so difficult about nursing school?

Published

I've read so many discussions here, and I have heard the "difficulty" of nursing school stated or alluded to so many times. What is so difficult about nursing school? I'd really like to understand. The nursing pre-reqs weren't that difficult. A&P was loads of work, but why is nursing school so much more difficult? What exactly are you guys talking about? Please be specific...

3.) Learning a New way to Study- I did well in Anatomy and used a ton of notecards to remember the material. I would practice for hours on end until I knew all my cards. You really can't do that in nursing classes. There is way too much material for you to make notecards with, and by the time you will have made all your notecards the test will be the next day. So you are sitting there with a ton of unmemorized notecards and a test in 24 hours. (Yes. I did that and quickly learned that is not how to study for a nursing class. Sit with every slide and basically rewrite the slide on another piece of paper. Then try to recall what you just wrote and write as much as you can (without looking) under the paper. It's worth it!

Thank you for this!! This will help me immensely, I am definitely a notecard person so this new style will help!

Thanks. Good to know.

How can I prepare myself for pre-nursing courses?

I am a high school senior and I have just been admitted to my state's school's

nursing program. I don't think it's direct entry.

Should I study the material beforehand to get an idea of what to expect?

It's basically general biology, general chemistry, english composition I and

intro sociology for my first semester. I am probably going to get AP credit

for the intro to psychology requirement course.

To OP: Sorry for posting in your thread, I just didn't want to create one just for this question. xD

I agree with the others that nursing school isn't THAT hard. Yes, you'll have to work hard and use time management skills. And you have to learn how to read NCLEX style questions. (Actually way too much time in nursing school is devoted to perfecting NCLEX test-taking skills and hardly enough to real-life nursing skills, but that's a rant for another time.)

Unfortunately I tend to be a negative thinker. Before I started pre-reqs I fell for all the A&P IS SOOOOO HARD rants. Then I fell for ITS SOOOOO HARD TO GET INTO NURSING SCHOOL. After I was accepted into the program of my choice, I fell for NURSING SCHOOL IS SOOOOO HARD. Now I'm falling for THERE ARE NO JOBS THE SKY IS FALLING OOOoooooHHHH. I'm just hoping they'll be proven wrong too.
