What is so different about the updated NCLEX?

Published

So I've been hearing the buzz about the NCLEX increasing their passing standards, and don't know what to make of that. How much harder can this test possibly be? Last time I took the test was this past March only to recieve results that read "NEAR PASSING STANDARD" straight through. Does anyone have a clue on how different the updated NCLEX is?

I totally agree with you. I received exactly the same results all at near passing standards. Took it twice now! :( Dont know how to pull myself together now to begin studying anew. Any advice? Good luck to you. Hope you have passed if you didnt already by this month June. :) all the best...

You will be able to compare when you retest, but it makes no difference. The old test format is no more.

Thank you all for your advice and replies. I am out in CA and plan to test before August. Like you fiori1020, I have no idea where to begin, or if I just go on to do more questions. Good luck to you as well. CHIN UP we got this!!!!!

This short webinar from Elsevier may help you see what the changes/differerences are:

Thank you AtomicWoman. Checking that out right now. Oh I did download the new ncsbn 2010 test details and it seems as though the percentages of safety and mgmt have increased. Thanks everyone!

That website was super helpful thanks again Atomicwoman.

You're welcome. From what I can see, the biggest difference is that "management of care" questions are now a bigger percentage of the test. Which is why test-takers are telling us to do the questions in LaCharity (Prioritization, Delegation and Assignment), because that book zeroes in on management of care-type questions. BTW, LaCharity is now available in a 2nd edition, geared more toward the 2010 NCLEX. There's now an entire chapter on infection control and several other new chapters.
