ASN, BSN, and RN? My SIL told me that ASN is not a RN that it is one step below RN. I thought ASN was an RN. I am now totally confused LOL I have been working on my pre-reqs and want to go to be an RN if I get accepted into the program but now I am not sure what program I am wanting to try to get into. Can anyone clear this up for me ? TIA
Oh and Hello, I am new to the board. My name is Brandy. I live in Indiana. I have 2 boys and I am expecting #3 in 6 weeks. This is a great board!

An ASN is an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (2-year degree) and you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam to become a RN after graduation; a BSN is a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (4-year degree) and you are eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam to become a RN after graduation.
ASN programs are usually community colleges, but that is changing. The school I've been accepted into is a University and they changed their nursing program to require you to get your ASN first, sit for the NCLEX to get your RN and then do a 3 or 4 semester bridge program to get your BSN. All schools are different and offer different options. Check with the school you are applying to and they will let you know what type of degree you will get. They are also all different in what they require as Pre-reqs, so check with the school you are applying to for this information as well.

ASN, eh?
I've never heard of that.
We call it ADN... same thing, though, I guess.

Yeah, my school calls it ASN, but I've also seen it as ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing). Hey, I don't care what they call it as long as I can get RN! :)
Fer Real!
Thanks for the info! I talked to SIL again and I missunderstood what she was saying LOL
