Nurses are under constant daily stress.
What technique do you find helpful and would like to share with others?
Ob ny way home from work it will either be total quiet except the sound of the road under my wheels or 70's music off XM. If really bad, as soon as I get home I go into my room and just chill on the bed for about 10 minutes. Sometimes having a really good cry helps then I can come out and face the world and my children again.
yoga is awesome. i did it a lot in nursing school and kind of got out of practice once i started working about five months ago. then i realized how miserable i've been feeling lately and i decided to get back into it. it made me feel so much better. besides that, it really helps me to forget and let go of what happened during the day. usually i can't stop thinking about work and what happened and how i could have done things differently, but now i can't even remember the names of my patients who i had yesterday. sure, i'll remember everything tonight when i come back again, but it's a good feeling to leave work at work. i'd been feeling so bad in last few weeks, i was kind of thinking maybe about some antidepressants or something. i'm not against antidepressants and other such pharmaceuticals but yoga takes one hour to work (or however long you do it) and anti-depressants take six weeks to kick in. it's like instant gratificiation...in a holisitic sort of way.
I have been trying to do things to pamper myself lately. Whether it be a massage, a manicure or pedicure, exercise or shopping. Even though sometimes it is a financial burden, I have learned that taking care of me is what is most important. I have found that I feel better when I am putting an effort into myself.
