Hi! I finished my pre-reqs and was accepted into my school's nursing program starting this fall! Yeah!:) My school requests us to have a Littman Classic II SE stethoscope. I've read on here and have been told that stethoscopes can be stolen quite frequently while in school and at clinical sites so I'm trying to find out what the most common colors are so that I can buy an uncommon color to try to prevent mine from "walking". I also plan to take the advice I've read on here and have mine engraved. medisave.net seems to have the best prices I've seen so far...any other advice from the professionals I'm so grateful to have access to??? Thank you so much everyone!:heartbeat:nurse:

Just get what you like. Its gonna walk anyway if it so chooses. Just be sure to get used to it hanging around your neck.

It doesn't matter what color it is or if it's engraved. If it's not touching some part of your body or locked up behind a lock only you have the combination to, it will disappear. I had a REALLY nice Littman. Had to go back to my old Littman when it disappeared. Now I never ever loan it to anyone, and never set it down. It's in my ears, around my neck, in my pocket or in my locker. NEVER anywhere else.

I have the pink (breast cancer) edition...engraved.
Such a shame it seems so common for them to be stolen. I was thinking to do the pink breast cancer one myself..thinking that's a common color though. I'm originally from just outside of NYC so I was raised not to put anything down that you're not willing to lose..guess I'll have to get back into that mindset. Thanks for the answers..was thinking perhaps having a less common color would make it stand out or something but guess I need to just glue it to me like you all say.

I'd recommend getting the free engraving and getting one of these http://www.medisave.net/littmann-id-tag-engraving-black.html
The engraving on the head of the stethoscope is easy to miss, but this sticks out. These things only fit the Classic scopes. They do not fit the Cardiology scopes properly.

I have a teal colored littman stet which always hang around my neck then one day, a medical resident accused me of stealing hers. I showed her the faded name I wrote on the back of the tube. So yes, very important to mark your things like scissors. Heck! even my pens have names on it.
Yup...you guys have sealed the deal on not only getting it engraved but also buying the extra name tag (thanks for that link!) and of course keeping it on me at all times and not lending it to anyone. These are the things I love about this website so many of you willing to give even the smallest of tips to us newbies :) Thank you!

I have this and engraved it myself w/ a Dremel. Had to sand it down a little, but it was effective. Still in my possession after 2 years!
I'm impressed that you engraved it yourself...thinking I'm better off leaving that to the professionals as I would only become one of your patients if I attempted that myself with a Dremel! lol! I hope I can keep my stethoscope for a long long time...actually that brings another question, do they ever need to be replaced if you manage to hold on to it and take good care of it?

Me too :)
Nope the stainless steel parts will last forever. The tubing, diaphragm, and the ear bobs will eventually dry out, but those can be replaced. Although the cost to replace those parts is almost as much as an entire new scope.
