What classes should i take next semester? Need help deciding!

Published

The classes i have taken so far with Grade/Credits. I don't know what classes to take for next semester. I plan on applying to nursing program CSULB Fall 09. I honestly don't know what to do at this because early on i didn't have direction and didn't take the right classes. Now im stuck with only difficult classes left to take for Spring 09, Summer 09, and Fall 09. What would you guys take if you had to spread these classes throughout these semesters? Thanks!!!

I would definitely take physiology by itself (no other science courses). Otherwise space everything else out. If you must, take an extra term to make certain you don't pile up too much at one time. You don't want to limit your chances to do well by taking too much at one time. There are some that could pile it on and get done in a minimum of time, but only you know what your abilities and inclinations are, so just don't overdo it. Good luck.

To be honest, I am terrified of physio. There is only one professor listed by name teaching physio next semester and here is her rate my professor page.

I think i am going to take one of the other 3 physio classes that doesn't have a teacher currently listed because they can't be much worse than what i hear of this lady. thanks ill need all the luck i can get

If you made a typo but if your planning to apply for Fall '09 I don't think you'll be able to finish all of those to make the requirements in time. I'm planning on applying to LB (Spring '10!!) too, and it looks like the ones you need to take that they require for the program are Physio, Chem, Micro and Stats. I donno what chem you're taking, but CSULB only requires an integrated course for chem (your current school may not offer one, so if that is the case then you'll need both).

I'd take Physio (cuz you kinda have to), Chem 3A and Stats.

That will get of most of the required courses finished. But you know they only allow you to have one course in progress at the time you submit the application right? Since the one for Fall 09 is due in Jan-Feb, I don't think you'll be eligible for Fall.

So then, depending on how stressed you want to be over summer, haha, you could take Micro and Chem 3B. This will make it so you have no courses in progress if you apply for Spring 2010 (like me!)

Or you could take only one science during the summer as well as econ and/or history. So then you will only have once science course in progress when you apply (if you are applying to spring '10 that is).

Then just take whatever is left over in Fall and wa-la, your done!

As long as you get Physio, Micro, Stats, and the two Chem's finished, and only have one in progress at the time you apply, you'll be fine.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions. ;)

Good Luck!!

Ok, i just read the other comments that will probably freak you out about physio. (I haven't taken it yet so I wouldn't know).

So, since you go an A in algebra, I'm gonna assume your a pretty good math student.. which will help in both Stats and Chem if you decide to take them in Spring with Physio. I like Chem a lot. Much more than Bio because it is more mathematical and linear so it's easier to apply it, instead of just memorizing a bunch of bio facts (i'm not a fan of bio, i havent taken anat/physio yet so i'm hoping that will be better for me)

So my recomendation would still be to take these three courses. You seem to have done pretty well in all your other courses, and unless you work a lot or have kids I'd say go for it. Just make sure you have plenty study time. Honesly, if you are planning to apply for Spring 2010, I don't see much choice you have other than to take these courses together, because you need them done in order to apply.

Don't take Micro and Physio at the same time, that'll kill you if you don't like sitting there and memorizing things. Leave the courses that are easy for you for the summer due to the compressed schedule, and the ones that require time for spring and fall. The rest is up to you. Play it to your strength.

Try to find out who the other Phys instructors might be and check them out. But if you are that intimidated by the listed instructor, then take one of the other sections. I doubt that either of the others could be any worse. Any way you look at it, you have to take phys, so get your courage together and sign up for it. That is why I suggested that you try to go light in the term that you take phys. It is not an easy class, as you well know. Good luck.

i saw a counselor 2 weeks ago here is the schedule she put me on:

Spring 09 Semester

Physio1

Chem3A

Stat

Summer 09

Micro or Chem 3Bif offered during summer + Econ Retake

Fall 09 Semester

Micro/Chem 3B

History

APPLY TO CSULB HERE.

i really don't know if i should try to tackle all these classes together or just take another year to space things out and make sure i get a good gpa.

Another thing that has been bugging me is what i see on assist.org. i forgot to ask my counselor about this. They say i need these classes done as prereqs(which confuses me cause my counselor didn't mention this at all but i want to believe that she did not make a mistake in creating my schedule:

Prerequisite General Education (GE) Courses:

CSU GE Oral Communication - 3 semester units English 1 or 3 count for this?

CSU GE Written Communication (College Composition) - 3 semester units i hope my speech 30 counts for this

CSU GE Critical Thinking - 3 semester units i took the wrong philosophy?

CSU GE Quantitative Reasoning - 3 semester units Statistics right?

Oral Communication = Speech 30 (check with assist)

Written Communication = English

Critical Thinking = Some philospohy(check assist)

Quantative reasoning = Statistics

Yeah, these are also prerequsites to the program. Check with assist to see which ones you still need. And so, when you apply to the program you can only have one prereq (out of all of them, science and general ed) in progress when you apply.

At least CSULB accepts students every semester instead of every year!

I too am having trouble deciding whether or not to take things slow or to speed up to apply by spring. (i'll have to take micro and stats over summer )

What school do you go to? lbcc?

I hope I've helped. Keep us updated!

Haha the problem is i got that information off assist.org and they don't get anymore specific than that. Weird huh. i guess i will just schedule another appointment with the counselor to double check these things. yea i am currently at lbcc. thanks a bunch good luck with your classes too

Chem is not a prereq to phys? At some schools it is. I would not take Stat and Chem with the phys. Instead I would take the Econ or the hist class. If you can handle chem at the same time as phys, then that is as difficult a semester as I would tackle. For that matter be prepared to drop a class once you see whether you can handle phys. It won't hurt to take another semester if you need it. :wink2:

Yea i really think it will hurt me more if i attempt to take too much and fail rather than wait a semester longer. i don't believe chem is a prereq to physio at our school. i haven't taken it yet obviously but my counselor didn't say another about it.

im thinking of taking stat, physio and music 89. Then have the option of dropping music 89 depending how hard stat and physio is. im decent at math and i hear stat is fairly easy so im not too worried about that. i just pray that i get a good physio teacher.
