What classes should I start taking in HS and how to get OK from parents?

Published

Hey everyone.

I sing and play piano and am an avid musician. I sing at baseball games, charity events, and perform a TON. I love to sing and play piano, but I really want to be a nurse. I'm only 14 and people say I will change my mind, but I don't think that I will. I love people, medicine, and everything about nursing. I've done a ton of research and just feel it would be a great fit for me. What classes should I start taking in high school so I have less of a load in college? Also, my mom really, really wants me to be a musician because she was and I don't think I would get the OK from her to be a nurse. My dad just wants me to be happy, but it's mom that I really have to please.

To sum it up:

1. What classes should I start taking?

2. How can I get my parents to approve of me being a nurse? :)

Anything will be appreciated! :heartbeat

Thanks, Alex :)

1. AP science courses if you can help it...

2. It doesn't matter because once you're old enough for college you won't have to get their approval anymore!

Take AP Anatomy, Physio and Bio as well as chem..

Math would help alot too.

Live life for yourself, not your mom! You will be happier in the end!

Any science classes will help you out for college. Chemistry, anatomy, biology, and math. Composition is a big help also, but don't focus too much on literature classes.

Try and get your CNA license at ROP or through the American Red Cross, it will help you confirm if you really want to be a nurse. Also I think if your mom starts to see how truely passionate about nursing you are, and how it brings you happiness she might change her mind and come around.

Many high schools have a program where students can get their LPN license by the time they graduate. Then you start at a community college and do the LPN-RN bridge program and that will shave a good deal off your required courses, then transfer to a RN-BSN program.

That is another option. I went to school with two that were 18 years old and already working as nurses...they did very well in the program.

Bio, chem and algebra!!! Get that math out of the way.

Just in case you didn't know, most county colleges offer classes to current high school students in Jump Start programs. You might actually be able to take a few before you even graduate hs. Btw, like someone else said, your mom will come around when she sees how passionate you are about nursing. Good luck! :)
