I LOVE this thread! It's great to "meet" other moms going through nursing school! I am 32, and have 4 lovely daughters ages 12, 10, 6, and 4. It is tough with scheduling childcare, especially for clinical days, but I know It will all work out. I have a very supportive husband, though I can't rely too heavily on him to be of help with the kids as he works at least 70 hours per week so our needs can be met. (I can't wait to graduate so I can take some of that burden from him.) My mom will help when she can, though she's a teacher and works long hours herself. But as someone else said, if God wants me to do this, He'll make a way. He's never let me down before! Good luck to all, I hope we can keep in touch here and there through the semester. And as always, Mi Vida Loca, you are such an encouragement. Thank you.

What a fun thread! I'm about to begin school this fall (ASN). Then the plan is to work a year, preferably in Med/surg or ER, get my feet wet and learn a lot. Next do the RN-MSN bridge program through Frontier to be a CNM. (Catching babies for a living sounds like heaven!) I also have spent many years in the middle east and would love to go back with my degree to work in the slums of Cairo. I'd like to practice as a midwife in a hospital setting or clinic for 10 years or so to gain experience and then the ultimate goal is to run my own birth center. It may take me a while to get there, but the road rip is just as fun as arriving at your destination! :)

I'm in the same boat, I've been applying for different nursing support jobs but haven't heard back on any of them. (I'm not technically in nursing school either, I'm done pre reqs but don't start nursing 1 until september.) I've been told if I don't get hired now to apply again after I'm done one semester of clinicals. Of course if you have office experience you could always apply for unit secretary.

Check job listings for your local hospitals, lots of times they will hire you for a PCA or NA position with no prior experience as long as you are in nursing school.

Just in case you didn't know, most county colleges offer classes to current high school students in Jump Start programs. You might actually be able to take a few before you even graduate hs. Btw, like someone else said, your mom will come around when she sees how passionate you are about nursing. Good luck! :)

No, you don't need a skeleton model, bones are the easy part, lol. There are plenty of other things to spend your money on.

Hi, I finished A&P 2 in May of 2010, and passed my TEAS that month also. So I'll have waited about a year and 1/2 from the time I got my "date of completion". There are still about 20 slots available so you might still get a letter. I know they send them out in increments. If not you should definitely get in for the spring semester. The wait is a killer! Did you take Micro yet?

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have four kids and decided to go to CC. I'm really glad I did! I got a pell grant which covers 90% of my tuition (having kids has some perks, lol) and I'll leave school in 2 years with $0 in debt. Yes, I had 1 1/2 years of wait time between pre reqs and nursing classes but it's worth it to be debt free. A girl in my Micro class was going to a University to beat the wait and would be walking away with $70k in loans. Ouch! For me it was DEFINITELY worth the wait! :) (I plan to go back after a year or so of work and do an ADN-MSN bridge program online.)
