What can I start studying before LPN School?

Hi, I'm 44 years old and starting LPN school Aug '12. They wont give us our books until school starts. What would be good to start studying before school starts. I would like to get a jump on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In my experience with LPN school this year, a thorough review of Anatomy and Physiology would be a good idea. Can't speak much for other programs but at least in mine, there wasnt a ton of review when it came to that.

Another thing to consider is taking any pre-reqs for a BSN program NOW because I promise once you get going in LPN school you will not have the time to do so. And when you finish LPN school if you are anything like most, you may be tempted to apply to the next BSN program opening right away. So those are some good options to fill your time based on my experiences this year.

Well Anatomy & Physiology wouldnt be a review, I've never had those classes. Thanks for the heads up on the BSN, I will have to call and check on that tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

If your program had no pre requisites like A&P, I would suggest trying to take it online over the summer from a community college. Even a basic biology and chemistry class would make a difference!

Are you a newcomer to the healthcare field? A medical terminology class may be something to look into.

I took a phlebotomy class 4 years ago and thats about as far as my healthcare field goes. There were no prereq not for the LPN program but I know the RN does have those. I just wish they would give me my books lol

This is a great company and several of my classes have used their textbooks. I think you can sign up for their online 'class' without being a student. The class is not for credit but it prestents the material in an intereting easy to retain manner. I hope that helps!

I am aiming for the Jan '13 class so obtained the used books online and have gone thru Med Terminology and Math for Meds dosage books, A&P, Pharm Made easy, etc.

Also I got the saunders nclex-lpn and am starting the questions from the beginning to the end! It will give me a heads up on how to think in the genre of the med world. I am brand new to this world and have been a cna since Jan of this year. Good luck as your classes start!
