I will come back and post what I do during my break.
Please share what you do during yours. If you are not taking one, please explain why not.
Thanks
A lot of the time, it's a matter of just taking your break. You're entitled to your breaks, and the work can wait for a few minutes for you to get a breather. I miss my breaks sometimes too, but skipping your breaks all of the time is one of the big things that causes aides to get burnt out.
If a person has to wait 10-15 minutes to get their shower once in a while, they'll survive. Take your breaks!
And for heavens sake, don't clock out for your break and then continue to work. That can cause a ton of problems - legal ones. Like if state were to discover you did this, your facility would be in huge trouble, and I'm willing to bet you would, too!
LOL.... The concept of a 'break' is foreign to me. Being that I dont smoke I dont get that excuse. So i end up running call lights while all the others are on break. And in some cases their 'break' is once an hour on a 12 hour shift. Frustrating as ****.
And my 'mandatory lunch break'? I normally dont clock out, and normally dont eat, and just keep working. In the event a coworker makes a food run, i'll woof down whatever I got ASAP (such as 5 tacos in 3 minutes) then back to it still chewing on the way to the next call light. If I take a break I'll just be that far behind later in the day. And I can only recall once that I got out of work on time and didn't work an extra 20-40 minutes.

I am surprised that you haven't complained to your supervisor.
On 2nd shift, I get a drink and sit outside (when it's nice enough) with a couple of coworkers. On 3rd shift, I go and rock and sing to one of my favorite residents when I'm not on his hall. He's 4 and was not used to human touch when we got him (because his parents are worthless), so I give him extra attention when I can.
I teared up reading your post
You have a heart of pure gold. :redbeathe
Sometimes I think about taking lunch on my car just to get away from the chatter in the break room (and the stupid blaring TV). After dealing with whining, screaming, and babbling from residents (and THEIR blaring TVs), I just want SILENCE. I don't want to see anybody's face! But I think by the time I actually hoofed it all the way to my car, my break would be half over.

Won't do much good but make my coworkers resent me, and that when they start setting you up. I learned that in my last job. I'll just keep doing my job and when I move on, I will do so gracefully. Best revenge is to live a better life.
Jump in my car and drive for 10-20 minutes....sometimes stop at 7-11 if I didn't bring something to eat.
Mostly just do a lap around the town, windows down, music blaring....I usually take my break at around 3:30-4 am....so yeah haha
Only been pulled over once though! Cop figured I was drunk given the time haha

Depending on how hysterical the after-dinner madness made me, I used to sit outside on the curb in the parking lot, right outside the building. Nice, quiet (albeit uncomfortable) place to eat. I have no idea why I stopped doing this.

I WISH I could take the 15 mins Break or even complete time on my lunch... I do clock out for lunch, but continue working, because, since I have to get all my patients up before noon most of the times I am not done by 11:30 (my lunch time) but when ever I can I take 5 to 10mins to eat my snacks...
