Wh-wh-where'd all the CLC students go?

prior to starting the fall semester, i was a frequent visitor to this forum...and then i got busy with school. now that the semester is over with the pe and final is behind us, i'm wondering what all the other clc student nurses are up to? a few of us started our own study group and are moving on to nur 172. how about the rest of you? i'd love to hear whatcha up to and how your semester went. the advice given to us by the upper level students was invaluable and i'd just like to touch bases with all of you again.

hello newbies!

how are you doing in your first semester? heard you had a guest speaker to lay it all out about nursing school - believe me, take whatever advice she gave to heart! looking back, first semester seemed pretty easy but the whole method of madness may not be the easiest to get used to.

Speaking of EBO's does anyone have copies from the first two semesters I could have?

Hey everyone, haven't been around for awhile. I feel kind of overwhelmed with getting a handle on all the reading and the work. Trying to find my stride, I guess. I think the most difficult is all the expected reading. I really don't think it is possible to read everything the give us. Not at this point. The A module, yes, but B module things are heating up a bit.

I'm in a good group. We split the EBO's between the 10 of us, so three a-piece. I have a good group of 4 of us who have paired up to work on labs and study together. I definately made it my business to get a group together from the get go for support and such.

We never got the 3rd or 4th semester student who was supposed to come to our class- I don't know who it was, but they didn't show on our day. But I did go to the family open house and got some good tips from the 3rd year students.

Micci, there was a mix-up with the student who was supposed to come to your class. I know this, because it was ME! The instructor who originally set it all up (Janet) told me to come to the beginning of your class. Great, no problem. Except she told me your class begun at 12:30! So I show up at about 12:10, all ready to set up, and Mary says "Where were you this morning?". I told her I'd be more than happy to come another day - just name it. She said "That's ok, I'll just show the class your presentation". So that's the story... I still would be more than happy to come in and talk to you guys. Just let me know!

As far as the reading goes, you are absolutely right! There is no way in the world that you can do all of the reading (unless you have no life at all besides nursing school). What you should do is briefly skim the readings, looking for bolded words, charts, tables, section headings etc. Just so you can get a feel for what is where in each chapter. Then, read through your EBO questions. Try to figure out where the content is that the EBO question is referring to, and THEN read that section. This has been the most helpful way to do the reading in my opinion. And since you are splitting them up, you might be tempted not to read a section because someone else covered it on their EBO, but I caution you to read it anyway! Make sure everyone in your group lists the source of the information in their answer, including page numbers (i.e. P&P, pp 123-125). This way you can go back for each question and read the section your classmate has referenced. You never know, they could've missed an important fact or two.

To those of you who have asked for copies of EBOs.... I've noticed no one else has responded to your request yet, so I'm going to. Here goes...

You may find some people who have received EBOs from students who are ahead of them, it is true. You'll also find that most people are VERY posessive of their EBOs, and won't want to share with others - especially people they don't really know. I'm sorry if that sounds mean - it isn't meant to be at all. It's just that a lot of us have worked very hard on our EBOs in the past, and it's kind of strange to hear someone ask for our hard work to be handed over without us even really knowing you. And anyway, how would you know the work someone else did is accurate? If you do happen to get a hold of someone else's EBOs, I wouldn't just take what the answers are as gospel truth. ALWAYS verify the information! It has been my experience that some people put tons of work into their EBOs, but some people just want to throw down an answer and be done with it. I can't stress this enough - you NEED to be totally confident with the information on your EBOs. This information is what your tests will be based upon!

The subject of sharing EBOs is kind of controversial at CLC anyhow. The instructors encourage you to split them up with a group, but I really don't think any of the instructors would encourage getting copies of previous student's work. If you do get someone else's EBOs, I'd be sure to keep it hush-hush.

And Micci, I had Mary last semester for the night courses...she was AWESOME! And we all miss her this semester. I wish we had one instructor through all 4 semesters, but obvioulsy, not possible. Mary is very wise and just an all-around nice person. I'm sure she refers to our class often...how wonderful we were. LOL...just kidding. But really, I liked her a lot!!! And every single one of her students from last semester passed both the points portion and the PE portion...we all moved onto the next semester, so I know she was VERY proud of that and proud of us for that as well! Actually, I believe out of all the sections, we only lost 2 people from day and night combined. That is outstanding if you as me (especially considering the PE's had to be perfect and there really wasn't any room for error). She is very encouraging and will answer any questions.

And on the subject of questions...sometimes people talk about things (in medical terms) and you "think" you should know what they are talking about, but if you don't, ask (some in my class work in a medical environment, so they are exposed to the terms more where as I am not). There are no stupid questions in nursing school and don't expect yourself to know something you haven't learned yet...I learned that early. Ask questions about anything and everything if you don't fully understand...others may be thinking the same thing but are just afraid to ask!

I won't know if I got in until sometime closer to October or November. The deadline is Sept 17 (I think) and then they begin the screening process. I'm not super worried though! My major worry is whether they will let me test out of at least two of the modules...I'm taking Micro/Intercultural Comm/Eng Comp/Critical Thinking this semester. I am sure you can guess I don't have a lot of time for studying other things!

I had spoken to the director of the program, admissions, and the chemistry department, all of whom said it would. Long story short, I had already decided with the issues I was having with various things that I would be better off going through a different program. I recently moved to Kenosha, and am now enrolled in Excelisor. Good luck to everyone and I am sorry I won't get to meet you in person!

I'm so sorry to hear that. Is that the only thing that you need for the nursing program? Did you at least score well enough to get into the program? Maybe just do the Chemistry in the spring and go for Fall semester start.

This is Kelly here and Im sure I know some of you....anyways, I'm starting my third semester (WOW!) of the nursing program in a few weeks, starting to get some butterflies, and was just looking for some pointers or helpful tips!!!!
