prior to starting the fall semester, i was a frequent visitor to this forum...and then i got busy with school. now that the semester is over with the pe and final is behind us, i'm wondering what all the other clc student nurses are up to? a few of us started our own study group and are moving on to nur 172. how about the rest of you? i'd love to hear whatcha up to and how your semester went. the advice given to us by the upper level students was invaluable and i'd just like to touch bases with all of you again.

Hey, at least I can type fast...LOL But I would still sit at the computer for hours typing away!!

I was fine with doing that. And truthfully, I probably didn't need to do some of that stuff (I am sometimes too detailed), but I am one who wants the info in front of me all together (like Colleen explained), and NOT have to reference a book for answers - what is the point of EBO's then? And it's hard when you are pulling your weight, but others aren't. But I have to say I feel like the group of girls we had with our message board worked AWESOME together. Every single person pulled their weight and we had a great study tool! I'm pretty bummed that we are going to be on different clinicals this semester, so we can't really work together other than the first two. My class was good as well, but we got to a point where it seemed like certain people burned out and didn't get their EBO's in for days, sometimes up to a week after I had set the due date, so for studying, that was difficult. I basically have the weekend to study, so it's important to have them!

Set due dates and make it known that is the date. I know my cousin had said if someone doesn't get theirs in, then split those up between certain people, get them done and then that person doesn't get a copy of the EBO's for that module...it's only fair I think. You have a due date for a reason in my opinion!! Of course, unexpected things come up sometimes and I would think that is understandable, but when it's a normal occurance, there's an issue there.

One thing I would suggest is set the due date AFTER you go over the module in class. Let's say you'll be discussing A1 in class the week of 8/25...make A1 due that following weekend (maybe Sunday, August 31 by 5:00 PM). Test weeks I usually put a due date of Saturday by 3:00 PM or so, then we could have it that weekend to study from. I think A1 I did on my own (or with the girls...I can't remember if we split those or not), but the rest I believe we split after that.

Hi! I'm applying for Spring '09, but I am an LPN, so I am planning on testing out of NUR 171 and 172. I'll have a better idea next week when I get my NLN results if that is going to happen or not. It is so exciting to read about your experiences w/CLC's program. I am SUPER excited to get started! Glad I found some other people going to CLC!

Thanks :) I took my NLN on 12AUG08 and am hoping to get my results during this next week. After I get the results and make sure that my score is high enough to be competitive, I'll be contacting the director to arrange testing for the first two courses. I will definitely be keeping everyone posted! What all did you cover in 171 and 172? After I talk to the director and get the okay, I know she will direct me to the correct study materials, but I would like to get started studying asap. Any help would be appreciated.

That would be so awesome if you could bypass the first two classes...good luck with that!! And you'll be in our semester then!!! Very cool! Keep us posted on how you did and how the testing out process goes!

I would imagine you'll get your results mid week this week...it usually only took like a week or so for mine to come back...

First semester was the basics like hand washing, bathing, ambulating/transfering, ACE bandage & TED hose, Meds/injection, that sort of stuff.

Second semester is Geriatrics/Pediatrics/OB, but not yet sure all of the stuff we will actually be learning. At the end of last semester, we learned Catheters and Enema's, and I believe we will be tested very quickly in the second semester on that.

Imm1019, thanks for the info. I am super excited to get started! I was worried about peds/OB, so of course I am starting my studying there. I didn't plan on going into either field, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have! Will let you all know how it goes...now just waiting for the test results.....still waiting....lol

Imagine my surprise when I was running late to work this afternoon, and stopped to check my mail....guess what I found?!?! My NLN letter was in the box...I dropped everything and ran in the house to wake up my husband and make him look at it with me. I got a 98 composite!!! YAY!

98%? That is a GREAT score!!!!! WAY TO GO!!! Now just get through testing out of 1st & 2nd semester, and you are good to go!

Have you submitted your application and all of that already?

Finishing up the application process this week. Dr. J has said that I cannot find out about testing out of the 1 and 2 classes until after I am accepted.....argh! That's fine; I'm not worried about getting in now at least :)

WOOHOO!!!! Great news! Congrats, and let us know if you need any help with the application process. Did you attend the info meeting yet?

Yep, I did the info meeting in June. I have credit for Chemistry (HS) and I took Biology this summer. I took Intermediate and College Algebra. I had all my titres drawn yesterday, and updated my tetorifice and started my two-step TB. (had it, but don't have the record) I am going in tomorrow to fill out the request for screening....I'll schedule my physical for next month....I think that is everything....am I missing anything? Oh yeah, all my transcripts have been sent to the school already, and they know to evaluate them for the nursing program.
