Wh-wh-where'd all the CLC students go?

Published

prior to starting the fall semester, i was a frequent visitor to this forum...and then i got busy with school. now that the semester is over with the pe and final is behind us, i'm wondering what all the other clc student nurses are up to? a few of us started our own study group and are moving on to nur 172. how about the rest of you? i'd love to hear whatcha up to and how your semester went. the advice given to us by the upper level students was invaluable and i'd just like to touch bases with all of you again.

Yep, I did the info meeting in June. I have credit for Chemistry (HS) and I took Biology this summer. I took Intermediate and College Algebra. I had all my titres drawn yesterday, and updated my tetorifice and started my two-step TB. (had it, but don't have the record) I am going in tomorrow to fill out the request for screening....I'll schedule my physical for next month....I think that is everything....am I missing anything? Oh yeah, all my transcripts have been sent to the school already, and they know to evaluate them for the nursing program.

It sounds like you've got it all figured out. One thing I would suggest though is call CLC and verify that they do have your transcript if you haven't already...I know I had issues with them not having mine when I requested they be sent like 2 1/2 years prior!

K, will do. Anyone else have problems w/the director? I have been in constant contact w/her since I got here regarding testing out, and she told me to contact her after I got my NLN results. I did, and now she says that due to the start of the semester, she doesn't have time to talk to me about it, and that it would give me an unfair advantage to know that I was going to be accepted this early....I totally understand that she can't say I am accepted yet...they do have to do the screening....but seriously? Are there really going to be 50 or 60 people who have higher scores? I have everything else required!

Not really lookin for answers; just venting in general! I'm ready already!!!! lol

That stinks...but sometimes that's how it goes . I'd have to say that YES, you are accepted...but anything can happen I guess. For our semester, it was the highest cutoff in I don't know how long...92%. I was shocked the cutoff was that high and happy I got in...I got a 92% on the test! So, she's probably just trying to be safe and not assume you are in. But I understand - you just want to get it over with and are excited to just start...and if she said to call her when you get your NLN results, I would have hoped for something more than that. But I can see where she's coming from too...the semester does start on Monday, so I'm sure there is much to do before then!!

Hang in there and I hope the time goes by quickly and you do great on your test!

Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff before you start is all a waiting game...I HATE WAITING!!!

I am interested in a copy of the EBO's. It was hard enough to get a handle on the module concept. It appears that the classes jump around. The order of what is done in class and what is required is a most difficult concept that is not clear in the handbook. However I can sort of follow these modules. I tried to split the EBO thing up with two others. Someone in the class says they have copies from previously and our teacher is very nice. She will let them distribute the EBO's for all of us to use. But I don't have anything to compare them with and assess the information. Would it be possible to get yours to help me get everything together? I just started Nursing at CLC this semester (171). Having EBO's to work from would be better than just a bunch of questions. - John (jmarcus at w9dg dot com).

Kylea, Did you get into the program? I would guess you did. I got a 99% composite with almost as good in each of the 3 areas. I know one other person at least got the same score. Although there was room for 60 people, I think they only ended up with 59 or something like that for some reason.

My major issue was all the preliminary work. I worked so hard on getting my health pasport done and it just seemed I was kind of in the dark about the whole process until the manditory meeting before class started. I did not have a list of requirements and had to rely on the health center. Also, when I asked the semester before, I was told I'd be buying around $250 in books the first semester. I did not realize I'd have to spend close to $2,000 for everything upon starting the program.

Lastly, I was dissapointed that the handbook wasn't available when I tried to purchase it, so I got it during the manditory meeting. It does not read very easily. I still cannot figure where it gives an orderly sset of instructions. I find that I have to jump around the handbook to find information on any one topic.

You will find that in many things dealing with the CLC Nursing Program there will be lots of "jumping". Jumping from book to book, from page to page, from topic to topic. Being well organized and having a group of people who are as serious as you is needed. The first couple of weeks will be the hardest, but you will find your groove.

Thanks. I already have found mistakes in the modules. One reading pointed to chapter 7 when in fact it should have been chapter 8. The chapters had similar names too and I discovered it after reading chapter 7. I find enough mistakes or inconsistent wording to make it more difficult too.

I won't know if I got in until sometime closer to October or November. The deadline is Sept 17 (I think) and then they begin the screening process. I'm not super worried though! My major worry is whether they will let me test out of at least two of the modules...I'm taking Micro/Intercultural Comm/Eng Comp/Critical Thinking this semester. I am sure you can guess I don't have a lot of time for studying other things!

I agree with Diedra...you will figure it all out, but there is a lot of jumping around. I wouldn't let that frustrate you! You'll have plenty of other things to do than get frustrated! At least you have page numbers to go off of for your EBO's...I don't have any...just the books!

The deadline when I applied was the 1st Wednesday in September, so just make sure you have your stuff in on time!

I got my acceptance letter I believe October 29 or somewhere around there...late October. The wait seemed to take FOREVER!!!

As you can probably tell, I am very new to CLC's nursing program....even more so, since I am trying to test out of some sections for having my LPN. What are EBO's? I am not sure I understand how the module thing works either. Any isight would be helpful! I have already explained to my husband that I won't be seeing him for the next year or so!!! hahaha

Basically every week we work on a different module...we have a different focus in our lecture, lab & clinicals. For example, this semester we have Maternity, Ped's & Geriatrics. The Maternity Modules are H1, H2, H3 & H4. Each one of those modules will have a different focus in Maternity subject, and like I said, we do 1 module per week. The modules include vocabulary, EBO's, Class Guides, Laboratory Guides and Clinical paperwork for that week.

EBO's stand for Expected Behavorial Outcomes. Basically they are a list of questions (usually 30) for each module which help us focus on certain areas of the reading. The EBO's help us prepare for our Cluster Exams for those modules. We usually split them up between our class and then each person isn't spending so much time trying to complete them themselves.
