WGU Prelicensure '22 - '23 Houston Cohort

Updated:   Published

Hi, my full application with a requirements was submitted last week. I am just waiting to hear back. I applied for the Houston location because they have more start dates than the Woodlands location. I live very close to the Woodlands though. Anyone else has applied and waiting to see if you were admitted?

Just called her and left a message to call back. And have ever received any calls from your ec because mine never called me, just emailed me a couple of times.

Why nervous about Houston cohort?

I still can’t get over how the new program is going to be completely different from the current curriculum. It’s going to be 8 terms/ 4 years and classes like nutrition, Chemistry, algebra, etc are needed. I’m still shocked. I need to add my self to other cohorts because having only Houston cohort as my choice is starting to look like a mistake. Anyways I need to calm my self down LOL cuz my anxiety is at its highest right now ?

please don’t be overwhelmed by the changes and keep believing

1.    TEAS will be accepted up until June 1st then the swap over to HESI A2. If you need instructions about how to sign up for the exam or what is required go here shorturl.at/mFNUW.

2.    So if you have no Pre-Reqs and wish to do them all at WGU you can follow that path if you wish and it'll be 8 Terms total so 4 years from start to finish. However, if you wish you can accelerate all the pre-req classes and finish them in one term. This is a fantastic option for individuals to not only get used to doing courses at WGU but speed through. However, I still think its cheaper to do the Study.com & Straighterline path for pre-reqs.

3.    The program at bare minimum is still 2.5 Years or 5 terms. They are putting a CAP so you can only transfer in 15 courses total so you'll still have one pre-nursing term regardless of at least 12 units.

4.    The new program that individuals see listed on the website is for all students starting March 1st and they move to the quarterly start dates July 1st.

5.    Individuals who do not reside in any of the states where the program is held. The feedback to me is still unless you live and reside in those states you are not eligible to apply for the program. So make sure to confirm with your EC if your one of the folks who are interested in that. Also per the EC unless you've already been accepted into a cohort all selections have been made for JAN & FEB start dates so the first one would be March for anyone who hasn't already been accepted.
sorry this is too long and I hope this info helps

Thank you so much?, please reach out to your academic adviser and push for your acceptance, that’s what I did, mine had to reach out to her manager to see if I can get into the available slot, I guess if you just chill and wait for them it will definitely take a while, I have a friend still waiting and it’s been 7months

Hey y’all so I had an appt with my counselor and she had to update my portal. Y’all most likely need to do that too. Seems like my counselor is as confused as I was today LOL

@kelliejackson721 Any updates??? Have you been in contact with your advisor?

Is your friend trying to get into Houston cohort? Waiting 7 months is just crazy. That’s the longest I’ve ever heard it to be.

Specializes in Pre nursing student.

I just applied to wgu and sent in my transcript. I saw that they now require HesiA2 which I will be taking soon. But the test required courses does not include anatomy and physiology. Has anyone recently taken the HESI A2 for wgu?

Hey y'all my status in my portal just changed to Admitted! I'm so excited! ?My counselor still hasn't called me but I have an appt with her Friday anyways. I'm in the Houston cohort for March 1st for anyone wondering.

If you already took ATI TEAS then WGU will still accept it until June 1st. You can still take HESI now and finish all the requirements like normal and all WGU cares is if you took the HESI even if it happened to not have A&P. I hope I'm right. I'd check with the enrollment counselor just in case.

WGU originally set the new Program start date for July 1st but now it's March 1st. I was accepted by the new program requirements and I'll be more than happy to answer any questions y'all have. Good luck on acceptance...

@Brightify Did your counselor mention what hospital you'll do your clinicals at? Also when you took your interview what did it consist of?

Counselor doesn't know much about clinicals, you gonna get that information from your mentor, congratulations and wish you good luck, I'm starting on feb1, can't wait for this 2.5 yrs journey
