WGU Prelicensure Nursing

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I finally got accepted to start prelicensure nursing program Dec 1 2016. So excited! I have literally been waiting a year to get my pre reqs and for Texas board of Nursing to approve the program.

I will do my best to track my progress. Best of luck to any others in the DFW cohort for starting 2016/2017

Hi to jbrn and kmaple,

Thank u. You are very kind. I wrote one of u in the inbox before I could get signed in here. Did either of you work in healthcare already? I mean. I know it helps for clinicals to be  CNA  or some kind of healthcare worker. I took CNA  but, have not worked at it.

I did work as a CNA part-time in my hospital.

I heard you should work in  the area to succeed

It is not necessary but your chances of getting accepted into the hospital residency program is a lot greater when you work for them.

No I had no previous experience. I can see how being a CNA could help prepare for fundamentals like making beds and showing. But I didn’t feel like it made a difference my cohort have a lot of different back grounds teachers, flight attendants. It just depends on how bad you want it.

I  plan on working for the Department of Aging and Disability when I graduate. How did you feel about your preceptors?

I am very lucky because my preceptors are the same ladies I had while in school.

Wait, maybe I don't know what preceptor means. The nurse  you followed around while in a clinical rotation at , how were they?

I’m currently in the program and I’m not a LVN and doing fine. I have some LVN in my cohort and they still have the same problems I have but they are great at communicating with patients.

my Preceptor was nice and although I had to drive 2 hours to another clinical site due to covid.

My preceptors were great also.

How many hrs approximately did u study or devote to school per week?  Does   have a math class while in the program ( not prereq)?
