WGU Prelicensure Nursing

Nursing Students Western Governors

Updated:   Published

I finally got accepted to start prelicensure nursing program Dec 1 2016. So excited! I have literally been waiting a year to get my pre reqs and for Texas board of Nursing to approve the program.

I will do my best to track my progress. Best of luck to any others in the DFW cohort for starting 2016/2017

That's good to hear. Congrats to you! I recently learned about their program and was discouraged because I had read that there were on probation with the Texas BON and were not able to accept new students. Im in the Houston area.

Have they explained to you how they handle clinicals?

Yeah the program was literally approved and they called to accept me into the program not 2 weeks after the lift. I still need to speak with my mentor but from what I understand clinicals are done at clinical sites. One serious of like 5 days every 3/4 months or so.

I called on Saturday (after I posted) and spoke with someone. He gave me all the details and it sounds really good. So good that I sent my application and transcripts for review. There are 3 locations for clinicals here and they are good reputable hospitals.

I really like how flexible the program is. the one thing that has held me back from going through a traditional program is that I can't afford to not work. I may be able to swing part time but not full school and no income. I looked at the sample schedule and it gave me a really good idea about the clinical and labs schedule.

I do have to take microbiology so im not ready just yet but I wanted to make sure I was not missing any other classes.

Good luck to you!! Make sure to come back and post about your experience

I will be beginning the RN BSN pre licensure program as well in the beginning of 2017 sometime. I am really hoping it is as good as it is made out to sound. I have had a few coworkers of mine that completed the RN BSN pre licensure program with and are very good nurses actually. Good Luck I know we both will be needing it

I think it should make you feel really good knowing that your own co-workers, who did the program, are great nurses. I really think with any nursing program it is really how you make the most out of it. really does give you all the resources you need to succeed. There have been so many times I was thinking I couldn't do it, but my mentor (you will be assigned one) keeps me motivated on my ultimate goal.

Hi, OP.... I was hoping to get into the co-hort this time but, was caught by surprise by the good news they re-opened the Texas program . What do you think it takes as far as experience and teas score to be accepted, any thoughts. Thanks.

That is awesome to hear. I am still waiting to get accepted or denied í ½í¸Š

I'm finishing up my first semester now. 2 more classes. I am enjoying it and super excited to get into my actual CLINICAL classes this summer. The competency approach is a little unorthodox but it is working for me well so far. I've finished all my classes before the "soft " deadline they put in place.

There's a ton of support, not much to complain about now. I'm working my tail off.

good luck! sommer832
