Hello world,

Anyone waiting for decisions since deadline for this cohort at Cedar Sinai has passed? I declined admissions to 3 reputable programs for this one so i am nervously waiting. Would love to hear & wait with nervous and potential cohort-mate.

They had the list last week. I found out on Friday I did not get in. Second time applying to a cohort, have a science GPA of 3.9 overall GPA 3.6 and TEAS 79%. My TEAS is low for what they want, I believe the cut off this time was 81%. I have wasted a year with .

@theone40- I'm sorry to hear about that. Have you applied to any other schools? I, too, have applied to a couple of times now. Their program seems to be very selective with their criteria. My statistics are similar to yours & I thought that it was competitive enough. I guess not :( time to look at other alternatives.

They put a lot of weight on TEAS and if you have a previous degree. This makes no sense to me because having a degree is not a requirement for the program, its a prelicensure program. My current and previous advisors always said your GPA is amazing but a previous degree would make you more competitive. The other issue is they only take 10 per cohort, some JC's take up to 40(better chance)

I knew i would not make this cohort so i started to apply to local JC's / ADN programs a few months back. I been told by a few counselors that I should have no problem starting in spring with my stats.

I would just start applying to other schools..

Oh man after hearing that you guys have tried many times makes me nervous as this was my first application to and trying again for the next cohort in Pasadena as I did not get in. I was accepted to all the other programs i hve applied for but declined because of WGU. After reading your experiences i feel i will be wasting my time. I had a feeling Cedar would be super competitive with a high applicant pools ( we have to remember we are also

Competing with the RN who works there, since Cedar is a partner for employee education, offering tuition discount). I have a science GPA of 4.0, with a bachelor (3.8 cumulative) and healthcare experience. So i thought i was a good candidate, Even with a TEAS of 84. But i think it was too low for Cedar, the competitive score was 90. I am planning on retaking the TEAS to get a higher score (i have over 90 in all except math section that brought the score down).

Have you applied to the Pasadena cohort last time? Or anyone retrying again for Pasadena? I heard their cutoff TEAS is a little bit lower according to the pool of applicants scores (78). After declining the other programs i really dont see sending new applications with them, so WGU is really my only resort.

I applied to the last Pasadena cohort and that was horrible, they only took in 6 from 97 applicants. 2 were from a previous cohort who had taken maternity leave and 2 who had postponed, also the TEAS cut off was hight 80s.

Wow, the cut off for the TEAS was 90% for Cedars ? my advisor told me it was 81 or 82.

I just spoke with a friend and her advisor said the TEAS cut off was 80% strange.

I spoke with my counselor yesterday, I also did not get in :(. I have found incredibly frustrating. I initially applied July of last year. Since then, I was being considered for the 2012 class but my counselor said they pushed up the class and I wasn't notified or considered until it was too late. They have changed the prerequisites at least 3 times, forcing me to take several unnecessary classes. My science GPA is 4.0, TEAS was 87, already have a bachelors degree and I am a Cedars employee. My counselor suggested I volunteer, to which I said "if you look at my application I've been volunteering for one year in Cedars' RN shadow program". It feels like she didn't even bother reading my application. She also said that a CNA license would make me more competetive. This is something they should have said a year ago. I'm debating applying to the Pasadena program in January. My experience with WGU has just been so frustrating that I think I should just apply to other programs.

Oh that is awful! Hearing all of this sort of behind-the-scene-after-the-facts infos which hopefully can help future applicants. Realistically yes it is a tough cut off: about 10% of applicants who gets to be chosen from is a very challenging number. I read from this past cohort at Cedar a person was admitted with less than 3.5 GPA and less than 80 in TeAS. Go figure their selecting criteria!

I had a frustrating experience with as well. I applied for the OC Cohort last year, was not accepted. Then applied for LA, was not accepted, then applied for Pasadena -- again not accepted. I had a 3.5 GPA, previous degree, but no healthcare experience. I was told getting my CNA might help and healthcare experience might help. But having a family and a FT job - if it won't definitely help, it isn't worth my time. The counselor has been great, but I wouldn't waste my time if you have other options.
