WGU Pre-Licensing BSN Cedar Sinai October 2015 cohort

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hello I wanted to reach out and see who else is anxiously waiting for their October 1st Cedars Sinai Cohort decision. It has only been a few weeks and the uncertainty is driving me crazy :banghead:. My enrollment counselor stated it could take as early as 30-45 days to hear back from . For those who have been admitted in the past, is that time frame too good to be true or does it really take up to two months to hear back from the Nursing Committee? Good luck to everyone that applied!!

Congratulations to all those that were accepted! I am in the Indiana cohort, but I wanted to ask all of you who were accepted if you can give us your stats (GPA, TEAS, Healthcare experience). I know that when I first was interested in the program I didn't know what GPA or TEAS accepted students had, thus I think it will be beneficial for prospective students and give them a baseline on what they should be achieving to be competitive.

Again, CONGRATS!

Hello centercourt2015,

I believe the Indiana Cohort is not as competitive as the California Cohorts. So I would not use that as a baseline for Indiana.

My stats are as follows/information are as follows:

Degree: Yes - BA in Human Development and a MBA

GPA: 4.0 for the sciences

TEAS: 86%

Healthcare Experience: I do have healthcare experience about 7 years in various departments, but not clinical experience. My job requires me to do chart reviews and audits for different co-morbidities.

I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

Congratulations Soc! I got my acceptance call yesterday and I don't think my feet have touched the ground yet. I look forward to meeting you in our first skills lab. :)

Congratulations to you holistic_healer,

I look forward to meeting you in our first skills lab too! I got the call this morning at around 6:30 am and woke up my poor dogs and husband in excitement. I am really excited to meet and get to know everyone in the cohort and those on the wait list too, one can't have too many connections and support. :)

Good luck to all those still waiting to hear back.

Can't wait to get started in October.

True. CA is much more competitive than Indiana. I landed #1 slot wait list with:

Prerequisites: 4.0

TEAS: 87%

Healthcare Experience: Career change, so this is my weak point. I completed a 6 month nurse shadow rotation at Cedars Sinai in Cardiac.

Thank you!! Yes, I am happy because I got accepted, it's just questionable whether I will begin in Oct or Feb.

I completely agree with my colleagues...California is definitely one of the most competitive states for nursing school. I pushed myself hard to get the very best grades knowing the level of competition I was up against.

Previous degree: AA in Fashion

Prerequisite GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 89

Healthcare experience: Over 200h of volunteer work involving direct patient contact.

I do think that the whole package is important. I made sure to build relationships with my professors which really helped me when I needed letters of recommendation. I also spend a lot of time on my student statement which I understand will often be the tipping point with the admission committee of many schools when choosing between 2 similarly qualified candidates.

Good luck to all future applicants and never give up on your dream!! 😀

Hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. CA is indeed very competitive not just for school but also for work. So def. a big congratulations in being accepted =)! Knowing your stats wasn't for me since I am already in the prelicensure program. I just wanted those other prospective students interested in the CA cohort to be able to get a baseline as to what the admitted students had as far as GPA, TEAS, etc.

Overall, I love the program. It takes some getting used to, but once you do everything is great. Do you all know how many people they are accepting from your cohort to move on to the clinical portion? In my cohort, my mentor informed me that they are admitting 10 out of 12 students (admitted to the pre-nursing term) to move on to the clinical portion. I know in Utah they take 12 out 12 students, so hopefully in CA it is the same since all of you admitted have such great stats.

Hello centercourt2015,

I spoke with my Enrollment Counselor and she stated that they do admit 12 students in the pre-nursing and admit 10 in the clinical portion. ( I did read some where that this was not the case, CA only accepts 10 students.)

I am so excited to be accepted and can't wait to start. :woot: I will be having my intake interview tomorrow. I was wondering, for those that have gone through the Skills Bootcamp, do you need to bring any supplies on that day (other than the printouts)? I was reading the skills pdf and noticed you need to know how to measure BP. Also, I would like to get a head start on getting familiar with the skills now, before the Bootcamp, I was wondering what materials does uses, I heard they use Mosby and ATI, I just want to confirm.

Thank you.

Hi Soc,

Congratulations to you! I think you will really enjoy the program. Our cohort starts CASAL II lab this weekend. I remember boot camp last year and being so nervous. It's really a lot of fun - try not to stress out too much. Take a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope if you have them so you can practice on your cohort-mates. If I remember correctly you receive these in your first lab kit. We use both ATI and Mosby, and you will have access to these on October 1st or maybe shortly before.

Keep in mind that for Cedars cohorts there are 12 students accepted into the initial 6 months' prenursing program and only 10 move into the nursing program in April. So, treat the entire 6 months like a job interview. Keep all your appointments with your mentor, try to get the best scores you can, stay on top of your coursework, watch the webinars and participate as much as you can. You are constantly being evaluated and your time logged into the various resources is monitored.

Best of luck!

Hello SoonerBredExpat,

Thank you for the information you have provided, it is greatly appreciated. I can't wait until I am in your shoes and start the Clinical part of the program. I have heard so many great things at 's Pre Licensure program.

Normally, I would wait and talk to my mentor, but my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and wanted to ask for items that would be useful for both the boot camp and clinical rotations (I am staying positive and assume that I will make it to the next round). From my understanding, I would not know who my mentor is until the end of September.

Hi Everyvody, congratulations to all you that have been admitting into the program. Did you guys take anatomy and physiology 2. I'm haing a hard time looking for a school. I live in Los Angeles CA. Thank.

Hello Teate,

you can look into taking A&P II through StraighterLine. It is a self paces online course that will accept.
