WGU MSN in 6 months

Is it possible to do the MSN educator program in one term 6 months? In a way that's 2 quarters, so it would be 15 units per quarter. If the student is able to handle all the load, is it possible to do in terms of prerequisites of the MSN classes-- are some classes REQUIRED to be taken before taking the next class? I understand that some classes SHOULD be taken before another class, but I want to know if it's possible to take them all at once?

Do we have to do a research project with human subjects in the MSN program?

I imagine it depends completely on what you choose to do your capstone on.

I don' t think so, klone. I think what Mary is implying is that the capstone is a quantitative versus qualitative assignment. I think the capstone is requesting we do a literature search, then create an experimental design, run it, and then study the results. This is involved, but doable. But, I think this is where the IRB comes in. I appreciate everyone's input on this as I am not sure.

Actually, mine was qualitative - but it involved human subjects.

I should have clarified that you must complete training on 'research involving human subjects' as a part of the capstone, but that it is not necessarily 'control group / experimental group' - type research. Mea culpa

But not all studies are prospective in design, as Mary states above. For example, many study designs are retrospective chart reviews, which would not require IRB approval (as long as all data is deidentified). It's only if you're doing ongoing research involving people that the IRB needs to get involved (I work in research, so I work with the IRB regularly).

Interesting! It's a good (albeit sometimes long, drawn out, and fraught with lots of hoops to jump through) experience, so I imagine they want you to have that!

I think the process of hoop-jumping DOES - if nothing else - give you an up-close-and-personal view of IRB and the amount of detail, thought and consideration that must go into ethical research.

Untrue, the mentor/professor has complete control with the Capstone process.

Capstone yes- all other courses (including all four research courses), mentor is not involved in the assessment process whatsoever.
