Western University MSN-E 2020

Published

Hi all!

I, being the impatient person that I am, decided to make a thread to discuss the upcoming cycle of applications for Western University of Health Sciences, Masters of Science in Nursing Entry program.

A little about me, my undergrad is a B.S. in Public Health, but I always was interested in the nursing field. After getting my CNA license I decided that this was the field for me and want to eventually go on to become a Nurse Practitioner. I've been working on my application and I'm very nervous/excited to hear back (even though that seems forever away haha). Anyone else applying for this cycle, and if so what are your thoughts on the program??

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Good morning- I too feel your frustration. I have similar credentials and haven’t heard a thing from this school. This similar situation happened to me when I first applied last fall with another school. It was recommended to me to apply to many schools, including 2nd bachelors programs. Fortunately for me I was accepted to 3 other schools. So my advise to you is to keep at it and don’t but all your eggs in one basket. These programs can be so subjective in their selection processes that it gets super discouraging. Keep at it to find the program that is right for you. Good luck!!

Yup. I have several years as a manager in a FQHC supervising medical case management and counseling. I had 3.5 UG, 4.0 Masters and 3.8 Prerequisite GPAs. I have presented at a dozen national health research conferences and authored three journal articles. I have volunteered for three years at UCLA as a medical research assistant while working fulltime and attending nightschool. I had my essays vetted many times before submitted. And I was also told I would be getting an interview, only to find out that now I am not.

I would've been disappointed a month ago. But I have made peace with the process. I have learned a lot about myself, and what kind of respect I deserve from a prospective school. The disregard from this school has been appalling, and I am happy it's over. It's almost like an abusive relationship.

Something good will happen for us. We will all be the nurses we strive to be. There will just be a better place for us to attain this education than here.

Wow, you are phenomenal! I wish you so much luck!

I am so shocked. Honestly. Just for some clarity for anyone else comparing- i have a 3.9 cum GPA, 4.0 prereq, was part of multiple honors societies. I had extremely thoughtful letters from reputable sources. I have done an internship with underprivileged youth, i did 300 hours as a health scholar and 500+ as the assistant director of the entire program. My essays were reviewed by multiple people and were raw and showed my real emotion into where i want this career to take me. Finally, and most frustratingly, i was told that i would be getting an interview and to just hold on for my email. Devastated is an understatement.

Wow and we aren't even going to get a letter? I'm on the same boat as you.. I have a 3.6 cum GPA, 4.0 pre-req, my letters of recs came from the Medical Doctors I work for and the NPs I work with. Each week I was also told to look out for an email.

Going to take my Medical Director's advice and apply for the UCLA MECN program. He is as appalled with Western's process as we all are.

Nonetheless, congratulations to everyone who got selected for an interview. Go out there and get 'um!!! ?

You too! I've got one acceptance and one single-digit waitlist under my belt. I have a pending interview at another school, but at least I have an option. I'm not worried anymore

Specializes in RN, PHN.

For anyone that is going through the interview process this year, please post what happens. I know there are some interviews happening tomorrow. I’m trying to prepare but I’m not sure what questions might be asked. Will there be behavioral questions? Will they ask you to give an example of leadership? Will they ask about important issues facing the nursing profession?

I feel really lucky to get an interview because my stats aren’t that great so I really don’t want to mess this up. Thanks!

Same here! I'm not sure what exactly will be asked but I looked at previous threads and someone said to make sure that you know why you want to be a nurse and be able to tell your story. I'm guessing that means they might ask: tell us about yourself. I have a friend who got into WesternU's DO program and had the same interview style (panel interview). They told me that it was very conversational-based and that they make you feel very welcome. They also said that they were asked hypothetical questions such as "what would you do in this situation". I'm not sure if we will be asked those type of questions but I'm preparing either way by looking up those type of questions online and practice answering them. There are several YouTube videos on how to prepare for these graduate nursing programs so I would suggest to look at those! Let me know if you guys want a link as a reference to what I'm talking about ? good luck to everyone who got interviews! We got this!

I'm in the same boat, trying to prepare as much as I can. Please do share your resources! Greatly appreciate it.
