Western University MSN-E 2020

Published

Hi all!

I, being the impatient person that I am, decided to make a thread to discuss the upcoming cycle of applications for Western University of Health Sciences, Masters of Science in Nursing Entry program.

A little about me, my undergrad is a B.S. in Public Health, but I always was interested in the nursing field. After getting my CNA license I decided that this was the field for me and want to eventually go on to become a Nurse Practitioner. I've been working on my application and I'm very nervous/excited to hear back (even though that seems forever away haha). Anyone else applying for this cycle, and if so what are your thoughts on the program??

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

I haven’t received an interview invite or a rejection. Has anyone received a rejection yet? I was told those would’ve gone out this week as well.

I haven’t but still nothing for me as well. At this point i almost want closure. I just don’t understand.

Hey guys, no I haven’t heard anything as well. Hopefully next week we will find out.

I guess we are going to have to wait until after the weekend ? so nervous

I called and they said for the people who attended EAOD, we will be getting our emails sent out on Tuesday! Fingers crossed > . <

I just got offered an interview this morning! It's in 2 weeks, anyone else?

Congrats!! Which day did you pick?

No, still nothing here lol!

There's a writing sample during the interview day, does anyone know what's that about? Also, for those of you who are interviewing/had interviews, how did you prepare?

@cynhart Thanks! Wednesday!

@Haron717

I'm not sure if the writing sample during EAOD and a regular interview is the same. For my writing sample during EAOD, they give you a term and you write two paragraphs on it. Pretty simple. I prepared by just really explaining why I want to become a nurse and why WesternU.

I spoke to admissions and they said no more interview invitations are being sent out. I'm relieved to have some closure because this school has given me so much grief with the application process.

I am so shocked. Honestly. Just for some clarity for anyone else comparing- i have a 3.9 cum GPA, 4.0 prereq, was part of multiple honors societies. I had extremely thoughtful letters from reputable sources. I have done an internship with underprivileged youth, i did 300 hours as a health scholar and 500+ as the assistant director of the entire program. My essays were reviewed by multiple people and were raw and showed my real emotion into where i want this career to take me. Finally, and most frustratingly, i was told that i would be getting an interview and to just hold on for my email. Devastated is an understatement.

Hi raethehug, I feel your pain as I have also not heard anything and have similar stats. But to be honest, a university that treats its applicants like this (not even a courtesy denial email, lack of communication, changing deadlines, etc) is not a university you want to attend anyway. They obviously don't care about the impact they make on people's lives due to the mishandling of this process. It's a shame.

You are absolutely right. Thank you for your kind words. It feels great to know I’m not alone in how I’m feeling. This entire process has felt awful with this school. I wish you the best in your journey to nursing!

Yup. I have several years as a manager in a FQHC supervising medical case management and counseling. I had 3.5 UG, 4.0 Masters and 3.8 Prerequisite GPAs. I have presented at a dozen national health research conferences and authored three journal articles. I have volunteered for three years at UCLA as a medical research assistant while working fulltime and attending nightschool. I had my essays vetted many times before submitted. And I was also told I would be getting an interview, only to find out that now I am not.

I would've been disappointed a month ago. But I have made peace with the process. I have learned a lot about myself, and what kind of respect I deserve from a prospective school. The disregard from this school has been appalling, and I am happy it's over. It's almost like an abusive relationship.

Something good will happen for us. We will all be the nurses we strive to be. There will just be a better place for us to attain this education than here.
