Western University MSN-E 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I just submitted my application and wanted to start a thread for this year's application cycle. Through this thread we can lend each other advice, support, updates, and/or questions!

A little about me... I recently completed my undergraduate studies and realized nursing was my true passion. I went from pre-med --> pre-dental --> pre-PA and now I'm here! I'm super excited to have applied because I feel life I've finally found what I want to do with myself. I also barely found out that accelerated Master's programs in Nursing exist.

I read last year's thread and it said that people receive an email saying their "application has been forwarded to the admissions department" or something like that. Did anyone who applied already receive this email yet?

Cheers.

I just got alternate status a couple days ago as well!
Like the others stated, we gotta keep our hopes up haha.
Does anyone have an idea of when we should expect to hear a final decision?

Congratulations everybody! I’m al anternate as well. I sent an email and they said that the committee goes into the alternate pool in May, so we probably won’t hear until then unfortunately.

Hi everyone! I have been accepted!!! I am sooooo excited. This truly was my dream school. I was very nervous because my interview was not long at all... and much shorter than the rest of the students. I have been accepted to Loma Linda as well but I have decided on WesternU. If there is anyone on here that has been accepted I would love to start a group chat or group email! It would be super helpful to have support throughout the process. I am excited to meet you all ?

To everyone on the alternate list... Wish you all the best of luck don’t lose hope. Be positive!!! You all have very good chances of getting in. You guys gots this ??

Has anyone else received an email? It worries me that the only interview left is next Thursday... they should have let us know by now if that is the case ?. Has anyone talked to admissions? Maybe they still have emails to send out?

Congratulations everyone! I will also be rejecting my acceptance offer to attend a different university so a spot should be opening for another amazing candidate. Best of luck to all my fellow future RNs! ?

@FutureNurse150 Congratulations to you!! Looking forward to meeting you. As of now there isn't a group chat but the previous cohort will make us a Facebook group after their finals I presume.

How exciting! Thanks again! ? Is it required to go to every single day of welcome week?

Yes we were expected to attend the entire week of welcome week. I'm sure if you have some extenuating circumstances, they will work with you. But they started lecturing for our classes that week. It'll be a mixture of orientation, strategies for succeeding in the program, and lecturing.

Since your program is now 2 years, I'm not sure if they changed anything during welcome week. If anything, I assume they scheduled more lectures for you since your program is more condensed. But you will receive plenty of emails detailing what to expect. Enjoy your summer! ?

Hello everyone! I just got an acceptance letter (4/16/19). I interviewed in January and was put on the alternate list about a month ago. This is my dream school so I’m very excited!

Any other alternates make it in? Also, is there a FB group?

Hi everyone! I got an email today too 4/16/19 informing me that I am accepted! I interviewed January 25th and was accepted as an alternate. I had only applied to this school because it's the only one I wanted! I'm so happy I'm in!!! Don't lose hope if you are on the alternate list! I pray you get your acceptance email soon!!!!!

hey everyone!

quick question for those who plan on attending westernu. Are you guys going to do the grad plus loan or which other options are you considering? I'd appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thank you in advance ?

@nevergiveup10_

I haven't considered any loans yet. I'm still waiting to hear back from the financial aid department to see how much I qualify for. I'm also waiting to see what the exact cost estimates are. Currently, the website shows values that are based on the 3-year program. From there, I hear, there are other options that may have lower interest rates like Sallie Mae or Discover.

By the way, I heard from the current cohort that they will create a Facebook Group for us around or during our orientation/welcome week. Also, they mentioned that they didn't have actual lectures during that week. It was more like informational sessions to get us acquainted with the school and what it has to offer.

The Facebook group has started. I don't have access to the list of those who are accepted, wait-listed, etc. So the group is mostly from the current cohort.

This group is dedicated to Cohort XVI (the incoming class) and Cohort XV is there to help answer any questions. This is just how the cohorts have communicated quickly with each other in the past (rather than sending mass emails/texts to 60+ people).

Just a note: Sorry but it's not intended for alumni or prospective students (nor will it be very helpful to prospective students... Students share study guides, quizlets, and videos that pertain to upcoming exams)

I was wondering if you could tell us what the schedule was/is like per week, as specific as you can. I can only find the class list, but not their days and times. I’m still contemplating on whether I should stay at my current job and work per diem or if I should quit. I’m a NA at a magnet hospital and I love my coworkers, so it would be awesome to have my foot in when I graduate. However, I do want to do well in the program, it’s about an hour away from school, and it might be night shifts.

Any suggestions/info is much appreciated!!
