Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!
I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.
Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?
WOW that sounds so amazing! do you know anyone thats been offered that? How often will that happen?
There were a couple of people who posted here on Allnurses last year and the year before who were offered early acceptance. At the program information session I attended back in April, the program director mentioned that it was pretty rare, and only for exceptional prospects, but didn't elaborate on the qualities they're looking for in that regard.
Maxpower77: thanks so much for the info! how are you liking it at western so far? I am not sure if I saw correctly but I wanted to know how many days of school there is and the times? After you are done with the RN and taking the nclex will you be able to get a paid job? thanks again for the info its really appreciated
Hey hk08,
The class times depend on a number of factors, some people go 4 days a week others go 5 days a week. It depends on if the stars align perfectly or not when you get your lab assignment and clinicals. For the first semester though the latest class ends at 5. I enjoy the program so far and have met a lot of great people. Once you complete pre-license and take NCLEX you can work as the remainder of the program is mostly distance based. As for whether or not they look at science prereqs separately, I'm pretty sure they do because I was an early admit and they mentioned our grades in the science prereqs as one of the things for they looked at but they may have changed their criteria.
Very cool maxpower77! I have heard of this before. On one of the tours of the program, one student was an early admit and she was extremely discrete with her background. Thank you so much for sharing!
A question about working after you get your R.N. license. How difficult or easy was it to find a position? I noticed you mentioned have previous medical experience. Can you elaborate? Was the a huge factor in getting your current position?
hello dedicatedone,
Im actually in the pre-license part right now at Western. From what we have been told nearly 95% of the people have a job within 6 months of finishing NCLEX, and the the other 5% were able to find a job a little later. As for my background I worked as an EMT for a few years. Not sure if it helped me get my spot here or not.

No, early acceptance is where they offer you an admission without an interview. Those selected for early acceptance are notified about the same time everyone else is notified of interview dates.
