Well, I thought this day would never come, but the application period for Western U's MSN-E program starts a week from today!
I'm beyond nervous, as I've been working on this career change for over three years now. Every time I write a little of my personal statement I get a little shaky. This is so unlike me too, I'm usually cool as a cucumber.
Anyone else here planning to apply for 2012? Are you as nervous as I am?
I interviewed on the 24th and just like everyone...I am super ansy! Maseca I live in the valley as well, if I was to get accepted would you possibly be willing to commute together (one day i drive, next you and so on...)? I am not totally sure on my plans for housing yet I will make that decision in near future hopefully.
I have a question for the people who decided to apply to Western. Since I might apply to Western for next year's cohort- I was wondering as a student who would be paying a decent amount of $ for the Masters program...how would "distant learning" be beneficial? Arent the last few years based on clinicals and it is important as a direct entry applicant to know that you will be thoroughly prepared to get enough experience in order to get a job out there (as you will be competing with other direct entry members who didn't have a online distant learning curriculum).
Just was hoping to get some feedback. Thanks!
Congrats to those that have already been accepted to the program! I was interviewed Jan 17th and the wait has been torturous. I called last week and they mentioned the letter should be going out in 3 weeks...so I guess we have 2 weeks to go. I hope we all can meet sooner rather than later and I wish everyone the best of luck!
I am beyond anxious as well! Does anyone mind sharing their stats I do not know where I stand at all, and from what I know the stats for my last 60 were different from what I calculated so I am not sure where I stand at this point. Anyhow I have a 3.53 and am not sure how much the gpa is weighed and how much of the interview is calculated into the decision.

Western's program works a little differently than you're thinking. The first four semesters (including Summer) are on campus, with clinicals in order to complete your training and education for RN licensure. Then, you're expected to get a position working as an RN while you complete the rest of the MSN via distance education. During that time, you also complete clinical training around your work schedule and attend two weekend intensives on campus each semester. So yes, part of the program is distance learning, but only after you have your RN, and you're still required to do many hundreds of hours of clinical training during the distance portion. Hope that clears it up!

I don't know how they weigh the GPA versus interview either, but I do know they look at each applicant individually, which is nice.
My stats are as follows: BS in Public Health (with honors, 3.95), my last 60 units were a 3.85, and I still have one prerequisite in progress (will be finished this month). However, my cumulative GPA is horrible due to me being a moron when I was a kid fresh out of high school. I have zero health care experience except for about 1500 hours of volunteer work from 1989-1996. I'm "older" for the program (let's just say mid-30's), and have a pretty clear vision of how I'd like to mold my career in nursing which I really emphasized in my personal statement and my interview.

I also interviewed on Jan 17th!!!! I can't believe we have to wait another 2 weeks!! I was expecting to hear back from them around March 10th... But this is just too PAINFUL. I fee like .

Also, by taking classes online, you will get to move back home and "give back to your community". You are not limited to Pomona and can work anywhere.

I live in Burbank, which is about a 45 minute drive from Western. It's shorter than my current commute to work, and I have a mortgage, a kid in high school and need to stay close to my husband's job, so I'll definitely be staying put!
