Western Career College??

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I am an LVN, and I just started taking classes at my local community college to apply to their RN program. Then I got a postcard from Western Career college. Thay have an acceleratede LVN to RN program. It would be much more expensive, but faster than community college. I just wonder about their reputation. It is a new program, and Western Career College is known for their Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant programs.

I already calle WCC to find out more, but the "representative" didn't know anything, since it is a brand new program. She said someone would contact me. Of course that was before Christmas, and I haven't heard anything......

What do you all think?

Hello Big B...yes They Set U Up W/pre-req Classes, No You Picking Your Classes, They Have It All Set Up, They Have Given Me Credit For 5 Of My Lvn Classes From Florida. Since You Live In Sac, Call And Ask To Speak W/tashika Floyd, I Just Cant Say Enough. This Process Of Trying To Finish Has Been So Hard, The State Makes It Hard For Lvns To Finish, And The Schools Around Me In Napa Have No Room And Wont Even Look At An Application Until You Finish All Pre-reqs, And Then There Is No Room In The Classes To Take Any!!! The Hours For Wcc Are 4:30-7:30. Mon Thru Thurs. I Hope You Look Further Into It, Good Luck! Mabey We Will Be Classmates!!!

HEre what I know about West coat Univeristy............. its 65000 as of jan2007. They take pre reqs from other colleges if they have not been repeated with a D,F, or W and are less than 5 years old.

Beware, it has been confirmed that the LVN to BSN course offered by Indiania State University and Sonoma State University is still pending with the California Board of Registered Nurses. The board is to vote on approval/denial of the program on Feb 16th, 2007.

Has anyone heard any other official information from the BRN about this program. It would be a real shame if the College network is taking advantage of this.

Also, there is no official listings on either Indiana State or Sonoma state websites that I can find. It makes me wonder if this is really a fishy marketing campaign from the college network.

Someone correct me with some more information and the I can verify!

Sounds good. I am cheering for you...if I don;t get in this year due to other obligations, I want to start next year.

What pre-requsites do you still need to take? I have english, public speaking, human develop., psych , but need to take the hard ones (micro , A and P, and chemistry)..for the colleges here.

Which 9 pre-reqs does WCC require?

Good news!

I have received notice from an official source inside ISU that the program in CA has been approved from the Board of RN last Friday.

The official source wrote:

"The California State Board of Nursing approved the clinical arrangement with Sonoma State last Friday.

Hi MaksMom and everyone!

So.. does anyone know how long it would take to do the LVN to ADN program with WCC? ...

Thanks!

I just spoke with an admissions advisor for Western Career College in San Jose and the tuition is GOING TO BE $41k for a year....I spoke to someone else from St. Francis Career College in San Jose who said it would be about $10K cheaper than Western Career College......I'd rather just wait an extra semester and go the junior college route.....that is just WAYYYYYYYYYY too much money for me.....if it were an RN program then I'd have no problem paying that.....but when I go back for my RN license it's going to cost more money and then add that to $41K.....I'm a single mother who can't afford it....

That is a ton of money. Especially when the jr college only charge about $2,000 for the RN program.

I am familiar with "Western" because I am from the North Bay Area. I now live in Phoenix. I just got into a 1 year LPN/LVN prgram that will only cost $7500 and the only pre-req's are Med Term. and Healthcare in the workplace(part of the HCC classes). I also know 3 technical schools that will offer an RN program priced in the high $30K. Still beats the tuition in cali, and the cost of living is cheaper here. One might consider coming here to go to school and then move back???
