New OB Nurses, Grads and Students, Please Feel Free to post your questions here:
Ya, come to California or as Arnold would say Kali-fornia. We need you like mad and are short some 10000+ RN's and Lacatation Consultants are needed in our big hosp such as Stanford, Lucile Packard, Good Sam, etc... We pay top wages to nurses in CA at $60+ hr or $75k or so and higher. Depending what and when it would be +/- . We don't have a 4th season of the year, meaning no real cold weather. Big draw back is the huge cost of living, but don't let it scare you, being an RN is a good job to have and will be ok to start. Rent is about $1000 - $2000 depending on size. We are very diverse, with many mixes of nationalities. Most people are higher educated as this is the high tech sector know as Silicon Valley. You can further your education at our top Universities like Stanford, UC Berkley, Golden Gate University etc... Why don't you come and look for yourself, get a feel, take a quick vacation and see if this is for you. We are 1 - 5 hours drive time from places like Big Basin, 17 Mile Drive, San Francisco, Yosemite. We have major airports like San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland which take you anywhere in the world. Hawaii is only 5 hours fly time. Daniel:welcome:

INfo for LVN to BSN at indiana state university?
This is merely a figure of speech, an opinion of how I (me only) feel. If this came out as an insult to you, I am sorry. It was/is/ not my intention to insult you or anyone else. This is problem with emails/forums, they often don't express the true meaning of ones feelings and are open to a wide variety of interpretations.

Well, sounds like a great match for you. Good luck with it! For some it is a perfect fit. However, I have said it before, not going with TCN has great advantages of which are listed below. While I got the latest editions of the college network off of EBAY for $20 - $50 a book, I saved a huge amount of money. Being an adult all around, I am able to stay focused with my schooling and passing the first time is not a problem, because I am an adult. I don't need someone to tell me, well if you don't pass 3 times we will get you a tutor and pay $4000 because I am an adult and won't fail. I don't need someone to hold my hand, because I have confidence. America has more people in dept than any other country in the world, and this is one reason why, save your money and use it on something useful. I pride myself as liking to be a mentor and person that is willing to show the way a bit different than being a teacher. You can teach anyone anything if they want to learn it, however, it takes a special person, a different person who wants to be shown something and asks for help, that is the difference. With that, not using TCN has huge rewards, because it makes me a better, more responsible, because you did it yourself. If you insist on using TCN, get the books off of EBAY. I am very happy being cheap, I will take all that money I saved and perhaps: 1 - Go on vacation 2 - Pay off another bill :thankya: 3 - Buy that special thing for my kids :rotfl: 4 - Tell my wife I love her with somthing special :icon_hug: 5 - Go out and do something fun :balloons: all the while I will stay: 1- Out of dept 2- No crazy interest 3- No contract :bowingpur 4 -Be the same RN you will be :w00t: 5- Confident with myself 6- Be on top of Maslows and in return I will have 1 - The same content from the college network you had  2 - $4000 more dollars in my pocket 3 - Really happy :monkeydance: I will do the monkey dance

Purchasing the latest of editions of textbooks required for Exelsior
I went to a real college to get my LVN now I am working on my RN through distnace learning. At the end of my LVN schooling I had to take the HESI test and score 950 or higher to take the final. I took the final and passed. During school I started doing questions on the computer. Before I was ready (in my mind) to take the NCLEX I had done 19000 questions from various sources. What I wanted to say is that Saunders by far helped me the most in preperation to take the NCLEX. I am not suggesting that you stop using any of your current study material, but that you made an excellent choice for a study book. What my suggestion is, is to start doing questions now, even if you have no clue on the subject or what the answers are. Try doing a 100 questions a day or so, until you know the anwsers. Keep reading books, go back and do more questions, read more books, do more questions. When you think your ready, goto the HESI website and purcahse there testing module and see if you ready. HESI says there test is 98% or so accurate that you will pass. I must say there is some disucssions on the accuracy of the test on these newsgroups. One more thing, the people who administer the NCLEX have changed the standards and as of July of this year or so will make the NCLEX more difficult to pass, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps

I used this as my main study guide that helped me pass the NCLEX. I have to tell you that I think that Saunders NCLEX Study guide with the CD is the best. I reveiwed almost all NCLEX study guides that were available and Saunders by far was the best, Why? - The CD contains over 3000 Questions and you can go by section, take a test or quiz with every subject or individual subject - The CD give you a reveiw of every question and you can bookmark questions for further review. - The book is complete. If anything it has too much information, however, subjects and easy, short and concise statments on everything. - If you don't like the book, use the cd, it has all the questions in the book. However, reading the book will give you many more questions and tips. Along with alot of pictures. The only other book I found useful out of 20 or so was Lippencotts. I hope that others read this and use this information to help them pass the NCLEX. One more thing, if you studying to take the LVN/LPN use RN study books instead and don't limit yourself.

College Network
Can I ask you a few of questions? What is the pass rate of your school? Listed with the state. How many students in your class? How many people pass your class tests? What is the highest passing grade? What is the cost? How far along are you in the program, how long do you have left? I been through a simular issue, however, stuck with it and got my degree in nursing, so I may be able to offer support. Look around, ask questions, read these forums and research before you make a decision on The College Network.

Any way to get out of contract with RUE Ed. Publisher's
I agree always read and research before you sign anything, it is just smart. I think alot of people get pressured or just cave in and say yes and get remorse later. This is why you should sleep on it for a few days when you sign anything or at least make an informed decision.

This is why not having a contract is good, you don't run into issues like what happened above. Even if you did use The college network to get all those books, they are still way too expensive. Why not get them new at ebay: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=college+network&category0=&submitSearch=Search 90% of the people that list them there, have brand new books, never open and have not seem to have completed the program. Average price is around $20 per book for the General Ed or Phase 1 classes, which is a huge percent cheaper. There is a large discussion about this topic located here: https://allnurses.com/forums/f233/college-network-200529.html And what's good about this "No Contract", "More more in my pocket", "No loans" and the best, "No interest payments" I HATE INTEREST, it is just wasted money that you can use for something else. Do yourself a favor and pay cash, or use your credit card and pay it of right away! Onto another point, it good that people are open to discussion here. I don't think anyone is mad or upset here, just a discussion with people that have different views. Thats what makes this place great.

BSN vs. ADN income disparity
It took me years to make this statement and mean it: "Not everything is about money! Are you happy with your work" I live in Silicon Valley, People make upwards of $200k a year in various lines of work. At one time in my life I was making a lot of money, however, I was unhappy with my work. It took me years to get over that fact. I would rather be happy with my work than worry about how much I am paid. Sure, I would like more money, but I am happy.

College Network
According to Indiana State University, DR. Marcia Miller (email removed) Quote: " The California State Board of Nursing approved the clinical arrangement with Sonoma State last Friday. " I had spoken to the state previous to Friday and they told me they were going to vote on it. I want to make one statment here, the college network has nothing to do with this deal, they just a publishing company. The deal is between Sonoma State and Indiana State and the State of CA BRN. For more info, search "college network" on this website for important information and tips.

B careful LPN-RN Online
Why take out a loan when you can get it for free? To me, it sound like the College Network will work well for YOU! You offered many pros to the program. I really think it is an individual choice. It is too bad that more people like you have not spoken out about there opinion on the College Network. You also said you hadn't started the program, so that is great that you have offered you opinion. Most of the posts about the college network is however from people who are already in the program and are offering there opinion about there success or failure. Some people like myself, want to do extensive research before taking a big step. I came to the conclusion that the College Network was not for me because of the these factors: 1 - The per course (per book) charge is very expensive. I looked through one of the books they offered and saw very few pictures (some people are visual learners). My Alternative, to this? Why pay almost $500 when you can get it for much cheaper and get more for free. Example, lets take Chemistry. Search the Internet for a video course on Chemistry. Lets move it one more notch, Want to go to UC Berkley for free? UC Berkley is just one of many sites that offer all the real classes that regular in house students use totally online and for free. So the first step is to go to class. Feel free to visit and use this link. http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses.php . You can even follow along in real time, buy the real college book and do the homework just like the students without really going to UC Berkley. Your like a phantom student. Part two of of section 1 - Why pay almost $500 when you can get the CLEP books for free. Major companies make the clep books and you can find reviews about them and see how they are working out for people from places like your Library or at Amazon.com. The military uses the CLEP system quite widely, if you search you can find many clep books and study aids free online, example: http://www.petersons.com/pdf/free/ClepSuccess.pdf 2 - Why pay for college when you can get it for free. Many respected teachers love to share and help. So they make course online for free. These free programs are interactive, which means you can actually ask questions when you are stuck for a person with a Phd. Example: http://www.free-ed.net/free-ed/FreeEdIDX.asp http://staff.southwest.tn.edu/kfoster/links_4.htm http://www.freeuniv.com/ 3- Gotta study right? There are hundreds of them on Google and yahoo. Many of which have been reviewed so you know if the books are useful or a waste of your time. 4- You might say this is a lot of research to accomplish these items above. Well, Yes it is, and if you look online under "research and learning" you will find that hands on education makes the difference. By doing this you are tayloring a program to yourself, and making an online study program work and fit your lifestyle. 5 - The college network offers a guarantee that you won't fail. And after a certain amount of times taking the exam you get a tutor. The fact here is, why are you failing? If you are trying to learn why not pass the first time. If you put in 100% why did you fail? Why wait to fail the test 3 times before you get a tutor. Get a tutor FREE now as they are available simply by searching yahoo or google. Many state libraries offer state funded programs. 6 - A Contract! I don't want a contract. Lets face it, do you know if the college network is going to work for you? Why risk it, when you can do the above and risk little money and have No contract. If it doesn't work for you then you really haven't lost anything. 7 - Books are heavy, They collect dust and hurt my back. I don't want to lug around books. This is the digital age. I want to put everything onto a USB stick or a laptop and take it with me. Not just 1 subject book. Try doing this with the College Network, you are going to hurt your back. These days most everything is available online in PDF format. 8 - Study time. We all know that for every hour of school lecture time you need to put in 2 hours of study time. With the college network there is no lecture time, just the book. This may work for some but others.... 9 - Why limit yourself to one source of material. Why spend more and get less when you can spend less and get more! 10 - with my alternative I save upto $12000 and no contract
