Westchester County New Grad Salaries

Published

Does anyone know what the base salary is for new grad RN's at some Westchester hospitals? I'm seeing a lot of information for the city. Is it a big difference?

I was offered a position as a graduate nurse at Burke Rehab and was told once I pass NCLEX we can negotiate the salary that would be “in the lower 80s(k)”. Needless to say, I will not be working there. I also interviewed with WMC (med surg unit) they are in dire need of nurses and are NYSNA unionized (like some NYP locations, Mount Sinai, etc) however I was scared to even consider because the nurse managers straight up told me the ratios are MESSED UP! While I appreciate the transparent approach, they deterred me from taking anymore interviews there.

If you insist on Westchester then just apply and inquire when you get an interview. I myself will be commuting to Manhattan. I was offered a position in cardiac surgical stepdown at around 109,000 after differentials so it’s a no brainer for me

Lower 80's?? Oh no. This is great info, thank you. And congratulations on your offer!

Thank you! Good luck to you

I think there can be difference in the salaries. I would  guess 10k average less in Westchester.  Its all about preferences.  If someone lives in Westchester,  she may spend a lot to travel to Manhattan,  not to mention that the vibes might be different( slower, quieter in Westchester). If salary is the major deal breaker for you, forget westchester and go straight to Manhattan.

Not sure if you're still interested, as this post is about 1 year old by now.

But at WMC, they offer their new grads $51ish an hour. Which amounts to a little over 100k/year

I think it's now $54.5 an hour.  While I have your ear, do you have any idea what WMC pays for each year of experience?  Or night differential?  I've been seriously considering there but would love to know before I ask for an interview

Night diff is like an extra 3 bucks per hour.

They have a whole chart about how much the paying rate goes up the longer you stay, but it's a little confusing. It's more or less about an extra 4k a every year.

I Thank you very much for the response.  Didn't think I would get one.  I get a whole 800 a year for each year experience (HHC).  While I would love to get my hands on that chart I wouldn't ask that of you.  But If there's anyway you could tell me what a five year nurse might get in experience pay, I'd be much appreciative.  I've looked at the private hospitals but I'm getting sick of the commute.  And what people forget is that in the city there's an extra 3.5% income tax that Westchester doesn't levy.  Again, thank you for taking the time to get back to me in the first place

It appears I have to post 15 times before the private message feature is enabled.  If you're trying to send me what I think you are I'll see what I can do as fast as I can do it LOL

I wonder if only one of us needs to have 15 posts. Is it 15 to send and receive?
