West Coast University Help! and Advice

Hi I currently have all of my prerequisites for nursing school completed at my local JC. I need help and advice if I should consider applying to West Coast University. The big selling point for this University is that it does not have a waitlist. But I have been doing some research on the school and see that it is not accredited by WASC and only accredited by the accrediting counsel of independent colleges and schools. Is the degree at WCU recognizable? Will a BSN at WCU get me a job and is it worth 100k? I am hoping that with my prerequisites done at the JC will lower the costs. Please if there are any alumni or current nursing students at WCU please give me any advice and experiences you have with the University. I have seen a lot of gray areas where the school seems both good and bad. Thanks!

WGU starts cohorts at different times thoughout the year. They just started looking at records on May 1 to choose students for their Aug 1 cohort. And I read here that they are starting another cohort in October, at, I believe, the Cedars Sinai clinical site. This is a better choice all the way around from what I have read about on this site.

I thought about applying to this school also and still thinking about it. 100k is a lot of money and you should take your time in making a decision like this. I was suppose to start lat April but I am giving it until September to see if they get WASC accredited. If they do I will probably have to go for it due to the highly impacted community college.

I am also debating whether or not to attend WCU. I can't seem to come to a decision as to whether the amount of money financed in order to pay this tuition is worth the education... I just moved to California from Virginia, and have not experienced the frustration of the community colleges first hand. Any advice?

Just an FYI, WASC is visiting campus in July of this year but will not make a decision on accreditation until early next year.

I'm a 2nd term student at WCU right now and have so far had a great experience. The Professors for pre-reqs are amazing (generally practicing physicians who teach part time) and extremely knowledgeable. All the nursing courses are taught by Masters level RN's.

Fair warning though, when they say the courses are accelerated that doesn't even begin to explain it. You cover a 500 page textbook in 8 weeks. (the 9th week is finals and the 10th week is a break). You will have to have time to study at least 20-30 hours at home and that doesn't include hw. Be prepared to kiss your social life goodbye!

Overall I'm really happy with the school. Outside of price, really can't find a reason to complain.

Hey guys Ive been considering WCU anaheim! But Ive read ALOT of complains with administration and teachers and hidden fees. For those of you who are attending please let me know how it is!

I'm not sure about the Anaheim campus, I'm in Ontario but I would think just like anything else, you have to do your due diligence. There are some great staff members and then there are some that we would definitely prefer to live without. Do your research and know what you are getting into. Most of the complaints I hear from other students are to do with the financial aid department. Know what you are signing, read everything and if someone doesn't get back to you, you need to get back to them. I have a degree from CSUF and it wasn't all that different. There were administrators at CSUF who made getting something done torture... and then there were some that are a breeze to work with.
