West Coast University Cost

Published

Hi,

I am preparing to meet with a financial aid counselor at the OC campus of West Coast university. I know that my EFC is 0, so I'll qualify for everything financial aid has to offer. I'm also finishing my last couple prerequisite courses this Spring at a local community college so I'll only be paying for nursing core.

I juts want to know if anyone else has been in my situation and been able to attend. My dreams are so close, and I'm scared to have the door slammed in my face because of money.

Any advice would be great. Thank you!

Hi. I am actually starting in April. They have some prerequisites that every student has to take because it is only available at west coast. These classes are cultural plurism, pathophysiology, ge capstone, and I believe their version of critical thinking.

With the financial aid, I am like you, where I get the max amount on the pell grant and loan. With what financial aid covers, you’ll need to look for loans covering the remainder per year. So after financial aid, it is between $22k-$23k.

Hope that helps! Best of luck. ?

Do you mean it’s another 22-23 per year on top of financial aid?
just to clarify?
I qualify for some extra grants so that may help a bit but they’re annual so I want to be sure.

Yes, per year.

Without the help of financial aid, tuition is $38k/year.

I don't think that you will have any problems as long as you are able to cover the remaining balance of your tuition not covered by financial aid by private loans or on your own.

As a previous poster mentioned, there are 4 mandatory GE courses that everyone needs to take through WCU. If you are able to transfer all other GE courses, you are looking at 5.5 semesters at about $17K/semester before FA.

I will be attending the North Hollywood campus starting this April. I met with FA in November. You are given a projected cost which was higher (because they don't have your transfer credits completed during the FA meeting). More than likely, you will have several months to figure out how you're going to cover the difference. If I remember correctly, my FA advisor gave me 3 options: Personal loans, out of pocket or a combination.

Hello! I’m attending North Hollywood this April as well! I went through the same process.. Most of my GE classes were accepted. I have a couple of GE classes i didn’t take outside of WC because I wanted to go in sooner than later (oral comm and chemistry) plus their mandatory GE courses. I’m wondering if I’ll need to go back to meet with my FA Advisor to figure out the actual cost of my tuition since it’ll most likely go down. Not sure how this works.. got my proposed schedule and it looks like I’ll be graduation June ‘22! (5.5 semesters)

Hi hgl22,

We're on the same track! I received my schedule and should graduate June 2022 as well. I have orientation 2/28 & then reg/tech 3/27. I'm looking forward to getting started.

I don't think that you we'll need to meet with FA again. Your question is one that I asked my advisor when we met last Fall. He told me that the price could change depending on what credits transferred over and that it would be finalized before the start of classes and reflected.

You can always reach out to your FA advisor via email. I have on several occasions and received a reply within the day. Also, I recommend logging onto the student portal and under My Finances>Make a Payment Online you should have the option to make your first payment. The amount you are being billed should be the same or less than what you were quoted.

Have you thought about taking the two GE courses at a community college? If I did that math correctly, it will save about $2800. A class did not transfer for me, and I will need to take ENGL 240 at WCU. I'm thinking about taking it at a community college but I don't want to delay my expected grad date.

Hi stamf03,

I thought about taking them outside of WCU but just like you i didn’t want to delay my graduation date either. I’ll be attending reg day 2/28 and orientation 3/27 as well! We will definitely run into each other!!

They gave you your schedule already? Lucky! I have yet to receive mines. My reg and tech day is Feb 20 and orientation is March 27. The LA campus told us that they won't be sending the schedule till a week before the term starts.

Hi pmc888,

I rec'd my schedule for course sequence throughout the BSN program, not the detailed one for Term 1. I will be attending the LA campus as well and my advisor told me that that schedules for Term 1 will be given during reg & tech orientation. Hopefully my advisor is correct so we won't have to wait!

My advisor told me they usually give out the schedules a month prior so that sounds about right!
