West Coast University-Child Care

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello All,

I am getting ready to start West Coast University, Anaheim on 2Feb09. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or referrals of child care facilities that may be able to accomodate the schedule at this school. I really just need to cover until about 7pm until my husband gets off of work. Typically most child care centers close by 6pm. I don't need full time M-F, just enough to accomodate my changing school schedule. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great! Thanx.

Socolnursingstudent - do you mind sharing who you did your private loans through? I am navigating through the process right now.

I think I chose nelnet cause I already had loans through them from my 1st bachelors degree. U should review the list that they have for you. You can also try credit unions for private/ educational loans.

Yeah, that is a good way to look at it. I passed my HESI on Saturday so now I have to go through the financial aid part. I was supposed to go tonight, but that won't work.

I do have support through all of this luckily. Even though it is just me, I only have 1 son and he is really good. I will try to work as much as I can and I have to see what my work will do to help facilitate my schedule.

So now its just seeing what I can get, how much I can knock off from my pre-reqs and convincing my mother who would need to co-sign that this is the best choice.

I got my schedule today and think that someone could work p/t - at least with the first 10 weeks I have. I am going to have my English class online and my Anatomy is Tuesday from 8:00 - 5:30.

Yeah, if I start in June, I would be going to class on Monday from 1-5:30 and then eiether Tues. or Wed. from 6-10:30 at night. I would take 1 class online too. August would be different. It looks like Feb. is the start of the nursing classes, so thats when I woud have to see what I could do. I would maybe just have to get a waitressing job or something.

SoCalNursingStudent...I was just going through some of my old messages and ran across our conversation from way back...Just wondering how WCU is going for you..When or have you completed the program? I finished the ADN in August and am now going back to finish BSN...so what did you think overall??

Hi Nurse2bmom, I finished my first semester there at WCU and then left the school for a number of reasons. It took about a year to finish the traditional prereqs at various local communities. I am now at in my first semester of Nursing Core for a BSN and Licensure.

Here's another one of my old thread conversations as well.

West Coast University BSN to MSN - Nursing for Nurses

I still have friends that are in the WCU program and they wished they could get out but they are already in the clinical portion and spent so much money at the school. It would be a waste not to finish. I am not bashing the program but I know it wasn't for me.

I have another friend that finished the ADN program with a cohort of 80, only 4 got jobs including her (and she got the job because she was a referral not due to graduating from WCU)

I left after my first semester and found a cheaper alternative at Western Governors University (which is regionally accredited) and CCNE. For 2 semesters worth of WCU tuition (probably now $125K+), I will have a degree at ,(includes books, supplies and fees) WGU is only $17K +supplies so its closer to $20K. I have two young kids and could not justify paying for WGU tuition (approx $1600 per month for the next 10 years) Especially with the shaky employment climate.

Hope all is well. And hope that WCU is best for you and your family.:nurse:
