How Much is a BSN Worth?
About 50. I could continue on, its just the thought of age and actually going back.

How Much is a BSN Worth?
I would like to hear your thoughts on schools and costs. I have been done with my nursing pre-reqs for over a year and a half. I have applied at community colleges and have been denied or put on a wait list. For the current wait list I am on, I have moved from 212 to 136 in a semester. That still leaves me at least 2 maybe 3 semesters away. I am now thinking of paying the $30,000 to go to LVN just to get something started. Problem there is that I do not want to be stuck at the LVN level. I could always go on, but when and for how much more? Option 3 is to pay a ridiculous amount of money but get my BSN in two years. It would be about $100,000 overall but with grants I would hopefully be financing about $75,000. I am almost 28 and a single mom with one son. My boyfriend is a RN and is an LVN instructor and my mother is a RN who also teaches. I have the knowledge around me to help me through the process. What would you do? Keep waiting and waiting for community college, pay to be an LVN and then see what happens next or take on the debt and have a BSN in the amount of time (if not less due to wait time) it takes to get a ADN???

LVN-BSN /West Coast University
They are not offering the LVN-BSN. Only the BSN 39 month program. The total cost will be $132000 starting in April. Right now it will be a little less. If you have some of your pre-reqs done already they will reduce the price.

Oh! The sacrifices we make just to get through nursing school
I agree about doing this earlier! Though I am only 27, I wish I would have done this when I was 20 instead of waiting. I was so scared and didn't know what I want. Good for you and keep pushing!!

Oh! The sacrifices we make just to get through nursing school
Wow, I am tears reading this! I am trying to get into nursing school and thinking about these same things. I have a 6 yr old son and I constantly tell him that when Mommy starts school we will both have to make sacrifices, but in the end, it is worth it. He is so cute because he says that I will make $100 and get to buy a new dress. I was looking into going to a trade school to get my BSN guickly, but I would be about 60-70K in debt. If I wait for a community college, I will pretty much get my school paid for and I can use any extra money for living expenses. I will try to just quit work so I can focus on school and hopefully have a little extra time for my son. Its nice to read what you have all written. I am not married but I have been dating a guy that is a nurse for over 2 years. He knows the stresses and I think that is some of the reason he holds off on making it really serious. I just have to remember that my son will benefit more from me finishing school than the be hurt by the time I have to take away from him. I just hope I can tell my heart!

Yeah, if I start in June, I would be going to class on Monday from 1-5:30 and then eiether Tues. or Wed. from 6-10:30 at night. I would take 1 class online too. August would be different. It looks like Feb. is the start of the nursing classes, so thats when I woud have to see what I could do. I would maybe just have to get a waitressing job or something.

Yeah, that is a good way to look at it. I passed my HESI on Saturday so now I have to go through the financial aid part. I was supposed to go tonight, but that won't work. I do have support through all of this luckily. Even though it is just me, I only have 1 son and he is really good. I will try to work as much as I can and I have to see what my work will do to help facilitate my schedule. So now its just seeing what I can get, how much I can knock off from my pre-reqs and convincing my mother who would need to co-sign that this is the best choice.

No I am going to the Ontario campus. This is the first year that have offered it there. Its about a 20 minute drive.

No, it is too far for me. I live in Redlands. There is RCC, Chaffey, College of the Desert and San Jacinto around me. Its the same 2 year wait list with all of them. I have the best chance with Valley because I did all of my pre-reqs through there sister school and I live closest to them. I have a friend that is doing her pre-reqs at Chaffey and she cant even get in there. There is just such a high demand that they can choose whom ever they want.

That is very true. I did just e-mail someone at Cal State San Bernardino to ask them about. My other option is waiting to get into a community college nursing program since I have my pre-reqs completed for a ADN program. I called the other day to San Bernardino Valley College and asked their wait, it is 2 years. I submitted my application in Feb. I am going to get a hold of someone there and see if they have heard anything about it and if units transfer.

Thats interesting about Cal State Fullerton. Not that I am planning to get my Masters, but it is a concern that these classes are only recognized in their schools. If you hear back please let me know. I will try to check also.

Hmm, that is helpful, thank you. Well I go tomorrow for my HESI so I will ask some more questions then. Talking to you has given me a lot of insight, thank you!

I am planning on working until the nursing classes start, from there we will see. It will be hard as a single mom, but luckily I do have the help of my parents as much as they can. I just look at it that I have to do this to make our lives a lot easier. When I talked to Al Bond at WCU the other night, he said I might be able to trim off about 15-20k from the 116K total from the pre-reqs that I have taken. It is still A LOT!!! I would need a co-signer for the private loans and that is where my parents would come into play. Unfortunatley, my mother isnt liking the sales aspect of this school and is worried about the price, as we all are, so we'll see. I want to go so bad, but I don't want to be in debt forever!!

I went yesterday and talked to the Admissions guy. I agree that this is all fast!! Did you hear anything about tuition increase? I am curious if this is just something they are saying to try to get me to sign up soon. I am supposed to go Sat. and take the HESI and then go back Monday or Tuesday for Financial Aid. I did see the schedule and luckily I only need 5 out of the 13 pre-reqs, so that will help. After talking last night, he said I can start in June and begin the nursing part in Feb. If you don't mind me asking, how are you paying. Are you just going to depend on Financial Aid and Private loans. That is my biggest issue because I am a single mom. Thanks for your advice!! Good luck to you!

I have a question, what are the general ed classes that you have to take throught West Coast? How many terms are these before the "real" nursing stuff starts? I am just curious to see how much I have taken already. Thanks!
