{insert sounds of angels singing here!!}
Today was exam 3 of 5, and I have officially survived our Maternity lectures and now move on {happily} to dysfunctions of the child, beginning with child w/cardiovascular alteration on Monday. Looking at the syllabus I am not too sure what I am going to do, not having to read 250-300 pages/lecture.
I have to say that if I knew everything that I know now I am very doubtful that I would have had children God Bless our L&D Nurses!! I just couldn't do it.
LMAO...the title cracked me up!!
I happened to love my OB rotation and I rocked it cause I had already had a kid so I found it not only interesting but informative.
Drawback was when I got pregnant 4 years later, all that info came back to make me paranoid about my pregnancy, which ended with me in pre-term labor at 32 wks after a ton of other things went wrong....
LOL, I was SOO over "the lady parts" after L&D. If you ask my kids, however, they would tell you that they were over "the vajayjay" long before that! I took one of our school's anatomical models home to practice catheterization during my first semester. It looked so plain, all alone on the kitchen counter, so I added some eyes from my son's Mr. Potato Head. Ah yes, imagine the mornings as you're trying to peacefully eat your cereal prior to heading off to elementary and pre-school as "Virginia the Vag" watched your every move. . . Mwuahahahahaha!!!!
I'm not asking this in a sarcastic way...I'm really just curious---what part of the OB rotation is so bad? I'm sure there are a ton of different opinions, but I'm just wondering if you didn't/don't enjoy it, why not?
I am not crazy about OB primarily because I am a man that has never had babies. Womens health stuff i.e. vaginitis and the various exudates just is more information than I need to know. Don't get me wrong; its not that I don't like lady partss (I am truly in favor of them:D), I just really don't want to know all that goes wrong with them.
After thinking about your post it struck me that for whatever reason, I feel like I am intruding when I am in the room and mom is holding baby.
I think we all have our preferences and OB & womens health is at the bottom of my list.
I've found that in the ante- and post-partum sections plus L&D, the lady, her husband/family and myself are all a bit uncomfortable. I'm not so uncomfortable that it's an issue, but honestly, it is there. I maintain my professionalism and minimize the embarrassing/invasive/private things as much as possible, but that's hard to do when you have a clinical instructor there pushing you to do, do, do!
Which is why I loved the nursery, and sneak over there every chance I get. :)
