Does this mean I didn't get the job? Anyone had a good interview with HR asking for references and not hear anything back?
I emailed this week to inquire about when the references would be checked and the recruiters assistant said "the recruiter should get back to you shortly" what does that mean?
This is the first interview I have been on in 5 months of applying! And I'm confused on why they would ask for my references and then never check them.
The reality is this: the market is saturated with applicants and HR/ managers have their pick. Unfortunately, it is totally out of your control.
Keep applying to other positions and wait. You will risk annoying people and not getting the job. Two even three weeks is not a long time to wait.
I think I waited for my current employer for three weeks. Sometimes it's a month. For every position, there's 50 applicants. Employers do not have time to call everyone with an answer.

Hmm. Okay I was worried about that as well. I guess I will assume if I don't get contacted in 2 weeks that I did not get the job. Hopefully they are kind enough to give me a response.
Seriously?! I thought it was something they had to do! That is so rude though, to keep someone waiting around for weeks. How does a quick email hurt them :/
You do realize that here are 100s of applicants applying each week? You need to calm down. You aren't the only one who applied for the job. Maybe your references haven't responded. Maybe something showed up in a background check that was a red flag. Maybe there was a better applicant and they got the job. Pestering HR and saying they are rude isn't going to help your chances.
There's only 6 people who interviewed for the position as told to me by the nurse manager so it's not 100s they have to call back for the people who keep saying that.
I do think it's ridiculous that they wouldn't inform applicants that did not get a job, I never knew that so that's why I'm shocked by it. But I won't pester them, I've only emailed once since my interview and I'll leave it be for now.
I hope they are just busy :/
I know I shouldn't but I'm going to email the nurse manager :/ I just need to know! Even a short "yes they are in the process of checking references" would settle my nerves. Hopefully they aren't annoyed.
You just emailed last week. It's Monday and there is a holiday in the middle of the week this week. Give it until next week. If you just absolutely have to email them, at least wait until the end of the week.
You've already contacted them. Honestly, if you're coming across like you have in these posts, you're going to put people off. It's totally up to you, that's my take on things.Good luck!
I've never emailed the nurse manager. Only the recruiters assistant who was supposed to be handling the references. I'm pretty sure that I did not get the job especially now that people have said that they don't have to tell you, maybe thats what she meant by the recruiter getting back to me.
At least the nurse manager will know and can tell me.

Yes, this is extremely common. HR doesn't have the time nor the will to inform every candidate that they did not get the job.
