Does this mean I didn't get the job? Anyone had a good interview with HR asking for references and not hear anything back?
I emailed this week to inquire about when the references would be checked and the recruiters assistant said "the recruiter should get back to you shortly" what does that mean?
This is the first interview I have been on in 5 months of applying! And I'm confused on why they would ask for my references and then never check them.
Every manager is different, but please understand that each facility has their own agenda and flow as far as hiring.
Sometimes candidates are not contacted until orientation dates are finalized. Sometimes the manager has hired someone else and they will not divulge this information.
There are tasks such as performance appraisals, meetings, families on the unit and general emails that take priority over you getting a position. I realize this is important to you, but you also need to consider the bigger picture. Otherwise, you could lose out. The manager will sort things out as they see fit.
At your next interview, so that you are not going through the same thing, just ask the manager of it is ok to follow up with them if you don't hear back, and also when to expect to hear back. That way if you don't hear back within the timeframe they states then you can comfortably contact them.
I think HR sends out automatic emails that you were not selected once they close the position, atleast I think that's how they do it at my place. I don't think it's harmful to call or email the manager since it's been a while. Either she will respond or not, but either way you will know some sort of an answer.
I've never emailed the nurse manager. Only the recruiters assistant who was supposed to be handling the references. I'm pretty sure that I did not get the job especially now that people have said that they don't have to tell you, maybe thats what she meant by the recruiter getting back to me.At least the nurse manager will know and can tell me.
I didn't mean to like this. I meant to quote it. Whoops! The only thing the nurse manager is going to tell you is to contact HR. A little determination is one thing, pestering people is another. Wait to hear from them.
My advice is don't wait around. If you need a job keep applying. I interviewed in mid October and didn't get a call with an offer until November, about 3 weeks. It takes time. A call may come when you least expect it, but in the mean time you should continue your job search. Best of luck!
Hey guys I emailed the nurse manager and I am so glad I did.
She responded to me almost immediately, saying that I SHOULD HAVE received an offer of employment. I was supposed to start orientation THIS WEEK!!!!! She has no idea why HR has not contacted my references or me. I am so upset. Now she said I am going to have to aim to do the November 23rd intake. Hopefully there is room and it goes okay.

If I wait till the end of the week then they wont get back to me till next week. That will be 4 weeks. I know I am being annoying but I have a bad feeling I didn't get this job anyways, so I might as well get the confirmation now then waiting around with false hope.
