Well, maybe nursing is not my calling for now..

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Well, I did not pass my TEAS. Actually I didn't do good on the Reading and Math. So I took it a second time and passed the Math but still could not get up my Reading score.

I am thinking of going into Radiology. Is there a demand for this career?

Don't waste your time or money [im assuming you have to pay for it], take the time to prepare for it. Just wait and ask your school if they will or not, or look for another program in your area to apply to. Don't rush in to it, if you dont do as well, it will only discourage you more. You can wait a week until school opens again, just enjoy the holiday.

Not all schools use the TEAS test. If nursing is something you want to do, look at the enterance exams for different schools. Good luck.

Specializes in None as of yet..

I just read your title for this forum, and I have a couple of suggestions.

First and foremost, is think about your past endeavors and experiences that got you to the reason why you chose the route to become a nurse. Try to find the passion you have for this career, and really absorb that moment to start. Don't get lost in a moment of frustration when all around you, you might have endless possibilities. See if you can go to another school and try possibly a BSN route, or ADN route at another school.

BUT DON'T GIVE UP! Believe in yourself, envision your success, and all the luck to you!

Where are you trying to get into? Some places offer classes on the subjects.

Im trying to get into Mercy College.

the thing is that I cannot go to another school because the previous college I transferred from has a hold on my account for $8,000. I have been pleading with this school to explain why I owe this much but they will not set up an appointment to explain this with me. They claim I went over my loan limit so they revoked my grant or something crazy like that. I could easily get into another school but I cant with this outrageous hold on my account

You should go up to the institution and talk to them in person, you wont get anything over the phone since most information cannot be given over the phone anyway. I had something of the same instance, i owed them $365.00 [which i admit it was entirely my fault], so i just paid them and they released the hold.

If there is a valid reason on why you owe them money then you can talk to the financial department of the campus and see what they can do. If they said you went over your "loan limit" or whatever, ask them for proof. They should be able to give you information regarding the hold on your account. If not, you might be doing something wrong on your end.

Until you get that hold taken off, your hands are tied.

I need to make an appointment to speak with them in person, and they refuse to set up an appointment with me. They keep telling me to speak with Accounts Receivable, Department of Education, and bouncing me between those departments. I cannot have access to the financial aid office because they have security who will not allow you in unless you have an appointment. I don't know what to do. I am hopeless

I have heard that high scores on the reading comprehension section of the MCAT was positively correlated with success in medical school more than the other science and math based sections. It may very well be the case with the TEAS.

It will not hurt you in the long run to work on your reading comprehension. Entrance exams exist for a reason: to make sure that students are able to cope with the material that will be presented.

In all the classes I have taken both nursing and non nursing the students that I saw struggle despite spending hours studying were those with lower levels of reading comprehension. I know this will be an unpopular opinion but better to find this out now. It's certainly something that can be worked on.

I always do well in my classes though. It's the fact that I am timed that really bothers me though

Well in most things in life even life itself is under a time constraint. I believe you can do it. Just focus on the parts your weak on and you'll be better off for it regardless on what you do.

It's hard not to feel down about these things, but you can do it. The key to reading comp is just that, you read and you select the answer "they" want you to answer. Don't make it hard, just skim the questions, then read the section, go back and answer the questions, if you cannot find one go back and look after answering the others if possible.

There are tons of study guides out there for nursing entrance exams maybe even at your library and they should have some examples. Or you can look online. I find that I end up making simple things harder than they really are...sometimes you just have to eliminate the obviously wrong answers and then think about the others and see which one pops out to you. Is there anyway you can find a school that uses the NET or HESI? best of luck to you

Time freaks me out too, my instructor will say something to assure us its a hard exam. Then says "You have 20 minutes" I freak out. You know what helps I breathe and say to myself "I am going to pass this" and when I get upset I just do that over again. really they give you enough time, so the best thing to do is just read it without rushing too much because really what are you going to learn if you rush through it.
