my gpa is a 3.1. i've made all As in my science courses,A&P 1 and 2, micro, chems. but my gpa is so low! i'm just afraid i wont get accepted to any program. i talked to an advisor, she laughed at me and said i should look into something else. i felt SO stupid and im very depressed now because i feel discouraged from pursuing my dream. has anyone ever been accepted to a program with a gpa in the 2.8-3.3 range?

wow that counselor is a total jerk. that right there should tell you dont listen to that person they are not worth your time. I just got into an ADN program with a 3.35 if that helps you. I DO NOT think you should give this up. I think there is a chance of getting in school with a 3.1. I'm not sure if thats high enough for a BSN program but I honestly think it depends on where you live. I know my schools cut off was 3.2. I am a return student and I didnt do too hot my first time around. So I busted my butt and got straight A's for any prereq i needed to take. I would say take a look at some community colleges. My ADN program only looks at certain classes to determine your GPA. Would this help you? Ex they looked at Chemistry, english, A&P1/2 and there labs and determined your GPA thats way. Maybe you can retake a class. There are sooooooo many options for you so dont give up

Wow, she literally laughed at you? Really it depends on what your school policy is. My school doesn't go by overall GPA (thank goodness!) but by the GPA of the program's prereqs. If you have all As in your sciences there is a good chance your prereq GPA is higher then 3.1.
Also, did you talk to a nursing adviser or a general school adviser? At my school the general adviser are known for giving false info. Its the nursing advisers that know what they are looking for.
Good luck!
i did very well in my math and sciences, but i didnt do well in my english and history and sociology. anything not math related, i didnt do well. i made Cs in those, so i dont know if they will look at my science grades separately. how do i calculate my science gpa?

Can you re-take the classes you got C's in?
BTW, 3.1 is NOT a low GPA and there are people out there who have gotten into nursing programs with even less than a 2.8.

i just got into my NS with a 2.56!!
i failed clinical at my other school (long, terrible story... i am NOT a bad student, i swear!), so it took me from a 3.4 to a 2.5... and the school i got into doesn't accept everyone, i know people with higher gpas that didnt get in.. its not all about gpa, and 3.1 is definately not low..

My piece of advice is don't let other people run your life. Be in control and have faith in yourself. I did not have good GPA either, but I have 3.5 GPA in my science classes, but overall GPA was relative low. I was in the same situation as you before, I doubted myself, and didn't think any school would accept me.
Research first, find the schools you want to apply and what their requirements are, since every school is different. Some schools are by lottery, some schools go by science GPA, some go by overall GPA. You have to find out their minimum requirements and how they select their students, and go from there. Doubting yourself will never get you anywhere. And don't let counselors or advisors scare you away, they do not have control of your life, you do. If you have a little faith, things will turn out fine. Trust your self.
I got accepted on first try and if I didn't doubt myself, I would have been a nurse long time ago. But now I know better. Be in control of your life!! Good Luck! ^^

Before I started pre-reqs, my husband checked with a school in G'ville, SC regarding their NS. He was told by the advisor that you needed "All A's" to get into NS. My husband came home and told me that I would never get into NS with my grades from my prior degree factored in.
I didn't listen. After we moved to Jacksonville, I started the pre-reqs.
