WEll...here I go!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Well, this is it.

Tomorrow I quit my 18 year flying career to become a nurse.

It is very hard to describe the feelings I am experiencing. I am 45 yrs old and changing careers.

Actually, I am very excited and very nervous too. I am sure my hand will be shaking as I feed my resignation letter throught the fax machine.

One chapter of my life is closing and a new and challanging chapter begins.

countdown to 1st day of school ~ 47 days

Thank you .... you too!

I am also changing careers ... I graduated with a journalism degree in 1998 and have worked in several areas of the field since then. My latest stint has been freelancing. It's been good to spend more time with my two young sons, but nothing I've done in journalism has been very rewarding NOR paid worth much.

After two years of contemplating nursing school, I am finally starting classes this fall! As you said, I am also nervous but excited. I am ready to start this new chapter in my life. And I'll be 30 years old this fall ... so I'm starting another new chapter, too! ha ha.

Anyway, you will do great! I think, by choosing nursing, you've made a very wise career move. There are six nurses in my immediate family, and they all love it AND make great money. So go for it! :)

Good Luck and you will do GREAT!

(By the way~ I'm 43!)

I too am 45 years old and quit my job to go back to school to become a nurse. I was very nervous and not completely certain I was doing the smart thing. I am now finished with my pre-reqs and will be applying for nursing school sometime in the middle of August, and I have to tell you, it's one of the best decisions I have ever made. As an older student, I have had many opportunities to help younger people focus on their studies, while they have taught me shortcuts in how to study. I was worried as to how I would be treated but I have been given a great deal of respect. So, take a deep breath and leap..... you will be glad you did. One piece of advice I have for you is to start out kind of slow the first semester. I only took 2 classes in order to allow myself a much needed adjustment time. It's been a while since you have been a student, it takes a little getting used to. Good luck, we are all rooting for you!!

good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! I'm doing the same also. My last day of wk is Aug. 11th and classes start Aug. 15th. Happy & nervous also!!!! Again congrats:nurse: :yelclap: :yeah:

I am quitting my job of the past 6 years in IT and my last day will be 8/11 -- my RN classes start 8/21. I was petrified to tell my manager as I have been working on a firm project the last 2 years during which time he came on our team and he's been telling me since then he couldn't wait to put me back to work on our projects.

I apologized when I told him and he almost jumped out of his chair and said, "Congratulations! That's great!".....I was dumbfounded....asked him if someone had tipped their hand to him about me? He said, no, "but if you think I'm going to stay an IT manager the rest of my life, you'd be wrong"....

Turns out he just bought 10 acres of land in the past 6 months and wants to be a FARMER!!! He's apparently been doing it on the side for the past 5 years with a small piece of leased land, and he can't wait. He said he was always happy to see someone going after their dreams!! Wow!! He's a great guy and I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to work directly with him.

So, other than worrying how I'm going to afford to live the next 2 years, here I go, too!!

Oh, and I was 50 last December. Hopefully this is what I really want to be when I grow up!! :) It'll be nice to be in a career where I am actually making a difference!!

Good luck all!!
