Well this is bitter sweet.

Starting my RN-BSN adventure this fall. The university requires a higher level Patho Physiology class and Pharm class. The Patho I was actually looking forward too. I have a whole new appreciation for science classes like this that didn't kick in until my last semester of nursing school. So I was looking forward to taking a more advanced class then the CC offered and actually WANTING to and being into it.

The advanced university level Pharm I wasn't as excited about. My CC had a pretty rigorous Pharm class. It was 2 semesters long. I Got C's in the class (83% and 84%) and was glad to be done with it. I did really well on the Pharm HESI scoring an 99.8%.

So anyway, I just registered for the University level pharm and looked at the book I would need. It's the same Book I already used at the CC. Not only did I pay full price because it was a new edition, I never used it and already sold it back to Amazon for store credit a year ago. :| :|

So the Pro: It sounds like this class is going to cover the depth my school already did. I never use my texts but I worry to much to NOT get them. You just never know. Thankfully a classmate that doesn't get rid of anything still has her text and said I can borrow it for the semester.

The Con: I have to pay for this class and most likely it will simply be a refresher class on something I did pretty recent.

Anyway, just had to vent.

That sucks! My ADN program doesn't require us to take a separate Pharm or Patho class and I was going to take them if I had to wait another year. Luckily, I start the program this fall. Once I finish with my ADN and become an RN, I plan on doing the RN to BSN to MSN, which will require Pharm and Patho. Not sure if the university would require a higher level or maybe I can take them at the CC since it is so much cheaper. Anyway, you gotta do what you gotta do to further your education. It just sucks that you have to pay for a class that you already took.

Also... CONGRATS on getting your license!!! You are now an official RN!!! Wooo HOOO!

Oh!! Good and bad!! Its so painful to pay for essentially the same class you've already taken, but so nice to know you'll ace it... Argh!!

Well pharm wil probably not be too much different. Patho should not disapoint though, I transferred from my cc and that was a class that my University required we take there and they only had one professor for the course. Anyhow for us we had to take it the semester before starting the nursing program and I loved it. I learned so mcuh and in a way that a year later I still rely on that knowledge through my nursing classes because one way or another it all relates back. Anyhow the original point I replied was that I took almost all my credits at the cc to save money but I took micro. and when I went to transfer it the cc coded it with the old code and a long story short the cc wouldn't correct it so I had to retake it at my new school and I hated micro. I love science but for some reason micro is hard for me and I just don't like it, so I hated retaking it and wasting the money. No further point except I know how you feel kinda :yeah::yeah:

I'd probably feel relieved it was the same book/course. Maybe you'll actually crack the book this time. Since you'll have the basics down you'll have the brain power to dive deeper into the concepts so long as you don't get lazy! I think all said it's probably a good thing :)

Just make sure before you take the one at the cc. The ones I took at the cc transferred over and was needed for my associates but the university required a higher level one that can't be done at the cc. So double check before you sound the money. Thank you and best of luck to you on your journey!

My pharm class was very in depth. In fact they have scaled back on it a lot for the semesters after us, but we dove deep. I'm just not a text book learner. We had good lectures and things were covered well in them. I went to 99% of lectures. I am relieved for the fact that I have done this book already, but it's almost 500 dollars for a review that I had not that long ago. That's what sucks. I am sure I absolutely will get lazy ;) I am a total slacker when it comes to school and studying but I still did well in school so it must work for me. LOL I blew off studying for the NCLEX and took it within 2.5 days of getting my ATT which was within days of graduating. Got my license weeks before my classmates by doing it. Just how I am though, I knew I wasn't going to spend weeks preparing for it like my classmates and I saw an opportunity and jumped on it.

Yeah, I can see how that's a waste. If you had taken the class a while ago then you could almost justify the review. As it is it's going to be a waste of time and money. I'm sure you'll get some stuff drilled into you so you'll never forget!

I'm not a textbook learner either. I took a lot of prereqs online and though it was convenient and had to be done that way I didn't learn nearly as much in those classes as the on campus type. If I'm in class I just soak it up, as long as the teacher is totally boring or reading off power point slides. I look forward to when I start NS because I will be there in person! Maybe I can get away with not reading tons of textbooks!

Hey I know the feeling. When I was doing my EMT, to fill the void I took A and P I and II, each class a semester long with their own lab. When I got to my university, they said I had to take their one semester long class because they were going to cover more. Really? I mean REALLY! I had a year of this class and you think they are going to cover more in 1 semester. So yeah I hear ya
