Nurses Recovery

Ok people, rant time. So I applied to a facility in Dallas, gave them my whole story, told them I'm looking to relocate because of family being in Dallas/Denton/Fort Worth. Interview goes great, ADON introduces me to everyone (staff that was there). We go to HR, they do the drug test, do all the I-9 stuff, blood work etc. The ADON tells me to submit my 2 week notice (which I did) and she will call me back within 3 days with the start date because the background check takes 48 hrs. She contacts my then employer and off course gets nothing but positive remarks. 3 days go by and nothing, so I call her work phone - goes to VM and she doesn't reply. 4,5,6,7 days still nothing. Called HR and they tell me they didn't receive the paperwork that the DON or ADON signed showing that I'm they're ok with me working here and there's nothing the can do so I need to call/talk to the ADON. I call her cell and she picks up then hangs up and doesn't pick up or reply text messages which show they've been received and read.

So here I am again, back at the beginning. Back at looking for a job, any job. Just who the * does that. I don't get it. If you don't want to offer someone a job then don't do it. I mean really???

Dang that sucks! I've had two jobs since entering monitoring and that's my biggest fear, giving notice to my old job only to have the offer rescinded on the new one. Ugh.

As far as sitting out, I'm in Texas too, in TPAPN. Are you in TPAPN or board ordered? If it's TPAPN, you are only required to work as a nurse for 12 consecutive months out of the 3 years of the TPAPN standard contract. So if you've been working at your old job while in TPAPN for at least a year, then what catsmeow referred to as sitting out means you keep up with all the daily checkins and drug tests that TPAPN requires, but you just don't work as a nurse, you work as anything else that you can get, Starbucks barista or whatever. A non nursing job would theoretically be easier to find and you don't need TPAPN's approval or interference at all if it's not a nursing job. You still have to be able to go do your testing whenever you are selected, of course. So finish up whatever is left in your three years of TPAPN outside of the nursing profession. I've seriously considered doing this myself. I kinda figured if I dropped out of the ER world for a couple of years, then when I'm finished with TPAPN maybe all rumors and gossip would be so far in the past people wouldn't really remember just what it was all about.

Recovering RN, I'm not on TPAPN, I have a board order with the same stipulations though, 3 years of drug tests. I don't think sitting it out is an option in Texas since you only drug test when you're working as a nurse. At least that's what the compliance officer told me. But yep it's a bummer. Waking up early tomorrow to hit nursing homes and LTACs. As far as going to talk to the DON/ADON, I've let it go. It's not in my best interest at this time. All I see is them calling the cops or it escalating to something else. I don't think I can hold my temper when I see her and there's nothing she can say now that will justify not hanging up, not forwarding whatever was needed to HR and not replying texts. I had already told my family that I'm moving there and now had to tell them all this BS.

That really sucks. After I graduated last yr 2016 it took me a while to find a job. I found a job that I really wanted, I applied for it, got it, but then it kind of got rescinded. At first the hiring manager could only offer me part-time. I figured no problem I could find another job. But then she called and said that part time was only a few shift a month. To me that isn't part-time but causal. She decided that it was not in both of our interest that I take this job. To this day it still makes me mad when I think about it. Not sure how people can get away with stuff like this. Also, I'm curious why they make you take a drug test and blood work? Is it a routine thing nurses have to go through? Here in Ontario we dont have to do that.

I was asked to take a drug test right there on the spot at my interview! Surprised me, but I think it was that clinic's policy, not because I was in monitoring. Another job I got did not require me to do a drug test at all, so I think it's just specific to the company.

MJ48 I've had to do blood tests for hepatitis titers at every job I had so it's not a biggie. As for the drug test, it was the cheap cup test and I always go in with the mentality that "they" think I am high so I'm usually hydrated and drink coffee or juice to avoid the urine looking "diluted." What goes around comes around. I've decided to be done with it. Looking for another job while waiting to hear what my former job decides but the administrator already said it's a done deal. Lesson learned the hard and humiliating way.

You really took the beneficial tact by putting the energy from what I'm sure is your hardcore, excoriating pent-up frustration over how all that went down, to share and post on here instead of other possible actions. Take care, thanks, YOU CAN DO THIS.

I am so sorry. I can't offer advice, just hugs. That truly sucks though. It's hard enough to find a job in many markets without stipulations, add that and I imagine it's a real bugger. I can't believe that DON went so far as to tell you to quit a job you already had and then didn't follow through with hiring you, man did that leave you in a real bind. You are a better person than most to be able to let this go with nothing more than a rant here. Myself, I'd be firing off at least a couple of nasty letters to that DON and that DON's boss for leaving you in this position. After all, you wouldn't be jobless if you hadn't listened to that jerk and gave notice at the job you had. Again, so sorry you are going through this. Best of luck on the continuing job hunt.

These people sound despicable to me. To tell you to give notice at your current job and then leave you hanging. I would certainly note this behaviour on any pertinent website I could find.

Good luck, OP. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
