Welcoming Nurses Committee

Hi Everyone

I was woderring if anyone had any ideas as to how to develop a sort of welcoming committee? By that I mean like a gift basket of things that would be neat for new nurses joining our unit, a way to initiate them and make them feel a part of the unit.

I was wodering how to go about doing something like this and where we could raise the money for it? I was thinking maybe the last girl could be responsible for making the welcome basket for the new girl etc.

Love the idea, last could make it but all should try to contribute. I bet the new nurse would never forget it either.. I would think a nice basket, maybe a cool small flashlight, a datebook/small calendar, a couple rolls of Lifesavers. a phone list of nurses or at least those willing to talk, maybe a candle for relaxing or a relaxation tape..would not have to be new could be copied by one of you, a coupon or small gift card for coffee or lunch. I would start at the dollar store.. Do you have lockers, If so a cute magnet. Maybe a WElcome card signed by everyone..another place they could put their phone numbers if they wished to share.

Just a few ideas but I think you have a great idea, keep it simple. AS NM i got my staff small gifts for Christmas and birthdays.. One year an angel pin, one year $% gift card.. it is usually just the thought that you cared that matters. But a welcome basket is a fine idea.

That's such a sweet idea. You could place a stress ball, bandage scissors, datebook/calander, an "emergency care kit" (hershey kiss, life saver, angel pin, band-aid) You can make up the meaning of each item in the "kit". It doesn't have to be a huge basket either, a coffee mug filled with goodies would work.
