Welcome to the forum - UK nurses chat

I thought I would start this thread because whenever someone pops up who we haven't seen for ages I'm always tempted to take the thread off topic just to say hi, where have you been.

I've missed the Tuesday evening chat room meet to so I thought here we can say hello, meet new UK nurses, find out what's been happening with each other and catch up.

I'll make this a sticky so it stays at the top.

In that case your ward manager can't complain, isn't it a NMC requirement that you get supernumery periods immediately after qualifying. Sounds very stressful, hang in there honey it will get better and easier as you get more experienced.

Just wanted to check in with UK guys here making sure your all OK with the flooding and gales hitting the country at the moment.

We are not too bad, a few rivers bursting their banks but in general it's under control in my area. but it looks like the storms are going to continue for a while

I feel like i'm living in a different country (well I suppose I am to you Sharrie!) as it has been ok here in Liverpool. Yesterday I had all the windows and my french doors open, washing out on the line, no coat when I went out as it was a beautiful day . Today has been a bit rainy but nothing to complain about when I look at the news and see the devastation in Cockermouth, which isn't really that far away.

Yeah, we've escaped it too down here in the south east, lovely day earlier but rain setting in now. They have it really bad all over Ireland too, my Dad is probably going to have to leave his car there and fly back as there are so many road closures he doesn't think he will be able to drive across the country to get to the port!

I think I want to move to where you both are then. It's still horrible here but no signs of any flooding

Cockermouth looks really bad, we have friends up that way but at the moment they are OK

Just popping in to wish you all UK nurses a Merry Christmas (and anyone else who is reading)

I've just finished baking mince pies, iced the christmas cake, I've made my gingerbread and bacon stuffing for the turkey and just taken the cranberry sauce off the stove.

Looks like it's time for a little glass of port

Happy Christmas all

Merry Christmas everyone

Just going out to some friends for a few hours then a couple things to do tomorrow morning before heading out to another friends house for Christmas meal (she can't grasp us being thousands of miles away from our families for Christmas even though it is another country)

How are you all doing in this cold weather, our wards are being hit quite badly with trauma patients

I was in work Mon - Wed this week and on Tuesday it took me 3.5 hours to get there, but did something really stupid when I stopped at the services for petrol, in buying a coffee. Of course after a while I was looking at the now empty coffee cup wondering how I could "refill" it without being observed by high vehicles in the neighbouring lanes of the motorway :crying2: I was in agony.

In work it was really strange but everyone who made it in was in battle mode and determined to make the most of it. The trust was good and booked hotel rooms for those of us not able to make it home, although I volunteered to do the on call as the nurse who was meant to lives in an area that is quite a high altitude so was concerned at not being to be able to get back if needed. I ended up sleeping on a day ward as I wanted to stay local in case I was paged, needless to say I didn't sleep a wink - me alone on a big ward when I could have been in a 3 star hotel having a beer at the bar, me and my big mouth :smackingf

Our dialysis patients have struggled to get it and it was a case of reviewing recent blood results and deciding who could wait and who couldn't. The mountain rescue have been fantastic, rescuing our more remote living patients. I dread to think what is happening there now as I think everyone assumed this was a flash in the pan, I'm off for the next two weeks so hope things improve by then.

I'ts a new year so i'ts time to do something new as well. So here I am joining a forum. Don't usually do this kind of thing so my family label me a noob and luddite etc. Well here goes..........hello to all UK/Overseas nurses, hope I can gain advice and support here. To cap all the "new" thing, I have just landed a nice new post in ITU/HDU. Things come to those who wait!
