Weird Question: Are All Hospital Nurses Wearing Scrub Caps Now?

Nurses General Nursing Nursing Q/A

I know this is a weird question, as you'd think I'd know the answer but are all floor nurses wearing scrubs caps now during the pandemic?

I graduated just before the pandemic hit, and took a break from nursing for a myriad of reasons (none having to do with covid), so I didn't see any scrub caps during my clinical rotations except in the OR.

With covid, are the majority (or even all) RNs in the hospital setting wearing scrub caps now? I see even the MAs in my PCPs office are.

Resurrecting this post to ask another question:

I am moving to my permanent unit placement in acute rehabilitation & wondered if it would be weird to wear a scrub cap here?

I am loving scrub caps, just don’t want to be the only one wearing them if it’s considered really bizarre.

In my workplace, I am enjoying wearing all the fancy easy to buy fun scrub caps. Owls, Unicorns, Flowers, Even skeletons (for Halloween!) . But, there are plain ones (typical solid scrub colors) that could be worn to be a bit more low key if few/nobody is wearing them. Honestly, the button on the caps is the best part. I wanna cry after 30 seconds of those things over my ears.

That’s a good idea. My current ones are pretty “loud,” so to speak (bright Lilly Pulitzer prints). I beyond love them, but don’t want to seem too ostentatious as a new grad on the unit.

Do I like the idea of wearing a plain Jane scrub cap? No. But do I like that better than wearing NO scrub cap? Yes. So we shall see if I need to go that route or not.

I TOTALLY agree about the buttons. My ears were so sore until I gave in and bought some buttoned scrub caps.

Best thing EVER! It hides the scary mess on top of my head.

You can always tell the fresh RNs and CNAs hair all curled and styled. Looking so cute and eager. After a few shifts that hair is pulled back into a ponytail, in a bun, in braids, or under a cap.

No one has time for that mess.

LOL I gave that up after we had our badge pictures taken on day 2. My picture still turned out stupid!

I feel like I'm going to see a lot less scrub caps on acute rehab that I am on other units but I'm going to wear my caps anyways. I love them. The fact that they haven't caught on years ago for all nurses is beyond me. So much easier, more hygienic, and cute.
