Weight Loss/Healthy Lifestyles - Putting Your Nutrition Knowledge To Work

Published

I'm currently a nursing student (freshman in the nursing program). I'm taking Nutrition this semester, and would like to use this knowledge to help lose weight. I weigh about 190 lbs at 5'7¾", and would like to achieve a healthier weight.

I'm currently using the Food Wise program which came with my Nutrition book, along with http://www.fitday.com , and was wondering if anybody else was currently putting their nutrition knowledge to work to lose weight.

G'mornin ladies!

I'm wondering...one of you mentioned Curves. I've heard of it, and know that it's a circuit training system incorporating weight machines. To me, increasing your lean muscle mass helps with metabolism and weight loss quite a bit (worked for a few friends of mine, I could likely dig up some research too if anyone would like numbers)

Have you other ladies trying to lose weight tried weights in addition to cardio and food modification?

I wish you all the best of luck, and congratulations on taking steps to improve your health (whether or not you lose the weight!) :balloons:

Well in my situation I work out 2-3 times a week at a gym. Most of it is with weights. I have gained 10 lbs and not lost ANY fat at all. :crying2: I do watch what I eat, my body is just confused. I have been going to a gym for 6 months now so time won't help. I don't know. I know I will be "skinny" again some day, but I guess not right now :angryfire

I am a vegetarian and have been one only for about 6 years. I am constantly fighting to keep weight on and the doc always gives me the lecture. I did it for pro animal "stuff" but the weight loss was unexpected.

I am a member at curves, so I can give you some input. Curves works by only being on a machine for 30 seconds, alternating with platforms (where you do cardio for 30 seconds). If you go around twice that will be roughly 30 minutes. I have noticed a decrease in inches, but I have never noticed a decrease in weight, maybe even an addition of 1-2#. But, of course, muscle weighs more than fat!

On a down side... I feel like it took awhile to notice any superficial benefit. And, they "recommend" two times around the circuit, but I find myself needing to go around three times (when I have the energy of course!). It's a women only fitness club, which can be a bonus for some. The ones I have gone to are usually not very busy, so I feel like I have my own personal gym!
