as some of you may know i am now 33 weeks and 4 days pg. started having ptl at 23 weeks (was admitted to hosp. for contractions at that time- given ringers lactate iv for 3 days, macrobid bid x 10 days for possible uti, and started indomethacin 25mg q 6hr. round the clock.) anyway at around 27 weeks things had calmed down and although i kept having irregular contractions they stopped the indomethacin. well i went to see my high risk dr. for my check up last week at 32 weeks and to all of our suprise he found me to be funneling on the translady partsl ultrasound so he started me on nifedipine 10mg q 6 hr round the clock. today i went back to see him and he said my cervix is getting shorter still. it now measures 1.6 and at my first visit with him (back when i was 24 weeks) it was measuring 3.2. i am not dilating at this time but they went ahead and gave me the first betamethasone injection (ouch! :crying2: ) and i will get the second one tomorrow. they also upped my nifedipine to 20mg q 6 hr round the clock which is already giving me a headache and making me jittery and lightheaded. will this bottom me out? my bp was 116/62 today before i doubled up and that is a low bottom number for me. (usually 112 to 120 over 78 to 84)i guess my question is to anyone with experience with this kind of situation is there any way to tell how soon i will have this baby? i am reading alot of old posts on here that say the shots won't be effective after a week. so does that mean that the dr. thinks i am going to deliver next week? maybe i should't read so much. sorry so long but i am just worried that my little boy will be born too soon and have all kinds of problems. thanks for listening.

I agree with everyone else here. There's no way of telling when the baby will be born even with the funneling. Just keep in mind the progress that you have made, every day in mom is worth 2 days in NICU. Relax, the baby should do very well. My thoughts and prayers are with you though. Hope everything goes well.

just wanted to let you know, one of my girlfriends delivered three healthy daughters at 34 weeks and is expecting to deliver the fourth any day. she made it to thirty-five this time. they were all born at healthy weights 1) 5lb 1oz 2) 6lb 10oz 3) 6lb 14oz. on the other hand i had a pp patient who delivered a sga baby who was 4lbs 2 oz and he was right on time. i know you must be scared, but maybe just try to relax and get some rest while you can. you will not get it again for about eighteen more years!:wink2: i will keep you amy your family in our prayers.

wow! that is reassuring news. we do have a 3 year old son and he was born at 38 weeks and weighed 6 lb.7 oz. he was also a very easy pregnancy even though i had gestatinal diabetes. strange that i don't have it with this one...

i know this baby weighed 4 lb. 2 oz. last week. i forgot to ask the dr. his weight this week though. that makes me breathe a sigh of relief to know that a full term baby weighed as much as mine now. thanks for the reply. it's nice to know so many people have been through this or know someone that has. i feel like i can relax a little bit now.

i didn't have funneling but i was 4cm dialated at 35 weeks. i was taken off bedrest at 36 weeks and dialated another cm. everyone expected me to have the baby as soon as i was up and about. talk about a long week. i had her at 37 weeks. at 32 weeks with #2, they didn't think i would make it to 33 weeks, i had him at 39. with #3, i had a cervix that measure 1.2, if i remember correctly and less than 2 anyway, very early in my pg and had him at 36 weeks, when my cnm stripped my membranes due to pih.

there really is no way to tell when. some women who don't look like they will deliver for a while deliver days later and some who look like they will deliver right away can fool you. and as the others said at nearly 34 weeks most babies do well.

take care of yourself and wishing you a long (but not too long) pregnancy.

first of all- god bless you! :saint: it sounds like you had 3 tough pregnancies! i can't even imagine going through this 3 times!

i have never actually been on bed rest, just been told to take it "super easy". but like you,it seems every time i even get up to load the dishwasher or answer the phone everyone thinks i'm just going to drop the baby right on the floor! i know they are just concerned though. thanks for sharing with me it makes me realize there are other women out there who know exactly what i'm feeling and now i don't feel as alone. i know i can always count on people on here to make me feel better. thanks so much for your concern.

had the same problem, 16 years ago. was treated with nothing. baby was born on the due date the only funny thing about it was it was a percipitate delivery had no labor, had a few hard contractions and she came flying out. when all along the md could not figure out what kept me from having her sooner. yep you never can tell. congratulations!!!:)

well i saw my specialist last fri. he told me my cervix is still shortening. it was down to 1 cm that day. still no dilating though. he went ahead and released me back into sole care of my regular doc who will now be seeing me every week. i saw her today and she told me i have to keep the baby baking at least one more week or i can't have him at her hosp. b/c they are not equipped to handle babies this early. (it's a very small hosp.) so if anything happens between now and next mon, i will have to make the hour trip up to the big city hosp. where my specialist is located. i hope i can last that long but just don't know. my cramps are getting stronger and starting to radiate to my sides and back now and i can barely walk upright b/c there is sooooo much pressure. it feels like he is just going to fall out every time i'm up. it also hurts every time he moves and feels like he is completely blocking off my bowels which is also very painful!!! (tmi?) thanks again to all of you for the encouraging words. -amy

Hope all goes well with you and the baby. Even if you have to go to the other hospital, it will probably be better for the baby, and that's what counts. You have had steroids, she's getting bigger, and has less chance of problems.

We've been having a lot of 34-35 weekers lately, and apart from feeding problems, they have mostly done fine. Sometimes it takes a week or so for them to figure it out, though.

Take it easy! You won't get much rest afterwards...
