1 week till I take the NCLEX and I am freaking out!!!

I am really just looking for some words of encouragement!!! I have come a looooong way!!! However, feeling nervous about the test because (1) my paperwork for the background check ended up being submitted a month later than my class; it was sitting on the secretary's desk for 4 weeks because she got the flu (2) it took me 3 tries to finish; the first time I had to drop out because I got a divorce, the second time I got rear ended on the freeway on my way to the first day of school and ended up spending months in physical therapy, (3) I am afraid that I have not studied enough; I worked 2 jobs and went to school; I quit 1 job when I finished just so I could have more time to study but has not worked out that way. My 3 "girls" from school have all taken and passed their tests. Just hoping that I am not worrying myself to the point that I will fail. Labs and Pharm have been my weakest points but I don't feel like I can retain anymore. Please if you believe in God, pray for me!! If you don't say something encouraging anyway!!!! Thanks!!!

I am feeling the same pain as you right now. It is a must that I pass this test. I have a job lined up and I am suppose to start in July. We desperately need that income. My family is tired of eating mac and cheese because its cheap. I need to pass to get my fam out of this financial rut that school has put me in. I take my test on Friday and it is scaring me to death. So much pressure and the fear of the unknown. I too had to quit school my first time around do to my husband getting in a bad car accident. So that put my goals on hold once again...but I returned the following year and finished school. I am so afraid of letting everyone down. I just try to tell myself I can do this. I have had the worst things in life thrown at me already....that I can beat this and pass this test. I am strong and I am intelligent. I CAN DO THIS. I am sure this test is gonna be a whopper and we will feel like we failed after it. I have never gotten below an 85% on any test in school, so knowing how this test works, I am sure gonna feel like I failed, but remember we only need to get 51% right. This is the last hurdle to overcome...WE CAN DO THIS!!!

OK, now stop and take a day to relax. I know that sounds awful and easier said than done, but this time last week, I was just like you. Take a break for a day or half-a day, then start answering questions again.

I would do 50, then review my weak spots then do 50 more and stop for the day(usually by 8 or 9 pm) and start over the next day. The day before my exam, turned off the computer and put away the books and relaxed. I said a prayer before bed, when I got up, in the truck on the way to testing site, as I answered my first question, a couple times throughout the exam (especially after the 17th sata ?) and especially when the test stopped after 75 questions. Then again for the next 2 days while waiting for the results.

Pamper yourself, take a long bath, go for a drive watch a silly movie. Say a few prayers and relax, don't freak out and take it one question at a time. Once you answer a question, don't linger on if you got in right or wrong, answer the next.

You'll find that it's not as bad as you fear. I took the PN 14 years ago and knew what to expect from the whole process, but still had plenty of doubts and fear.

BELIEVE ME, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!

Good Luck!!:smokin:

I feel your pain. Although I have 4 weeks (July 10th). Just remember to "try" and relax the day before. Do something you enjoy and smile!!!!! We've made it through nursing school, we can make it pass this test.

Good luck!!!!!!

I took the test today. It stopped at 186. I don't know what to think of that. I swore the questions were getting harder. My friends had their tests stop at 85 and I know where it stops does not mean anything as far as passing or failing but I am still wondering why so many questions? Then I thought about how I asked God to keep the questions coming if needed in order for me to pass. Now, I am going to try not to stress about it after today because it is over, and I know I did my best. I just don't want to take it again! You know?!! Plus, in the state I live in, I cannot get "unofficial results" so I have to wait a month!!!! Talk about a test of faith! Whew!!!:banghead:

Try not to worry about how many questions you got. I took it thursday and got 211 questions! I thought for sure i failed. At one point in the test i was thinking to myself I dont know a thing! I am so not prepared for this! Really felt i guessed on every answer. My other classmates took it and it shut off around 75-150 so imagine how i must have felt. Anyway, just found out yesterday that i passed!!!! I was shocked - that couldnt be! Everyone kept telling me - i'm sure you did fine. But unless you have been there and taken it - nothing feels fine until you get the results. Hopefully with each day the anxiety of waiting will decrease. Hang in there. I will send a little prayer up for you. I have never been so stressed out in my life. So many years of stress and anxiety with school and then one test! :bluecry1:

My friend got 186 on Thursday and passed and another got 203 and passed. Don't pay attention to the # of questions you get just answer them to the best of your ability.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much guys! Between you guys and my friends that went through it with me and my family, I truly feel blessed to have this kind of support. I have made up my mind to claim what I worked for and not to worry about it. I just have to wait for my passing letter in the mail!!!

There was a guy in my class who tokk the whole 265 querstions and only had a few seconds of time left to spare and he passed. Have faith that you know what you know. Try to take a deep breath and think about what the questions are really asking. What would the BON want to be assured that a new grad knows? do your practice quizzes (in increments of no more than 25-30 question tests because I found that if I did more I burned out with studying way faster). Go over the rationales if you missed something. Think about what the big disease/health issues are in this country. Pretty good bet they will be on the test. basic principles of oncology, cardiac, Diabetes, hypertension, COPD, CHF, renal dysfunction etc... know your positioning terms (sims, high fowlers, semi fowlers etc...), Review your basic anatomy so that questions about RUQ abdominal paint won't throw you completely off track or how to position a patient coming back from a liver biopsy. How do you isolate airborne illness? droplet precautions, contact precautions?, Math questions should be easy so don't fret over them. Know your big lab values: potassium , sodium, calcium hemoglobin and hematocrit and what are some s/s of highs and lows? What disorders could be causing these highs or lows? Review some of your hormone secreting organs. Pituitary gland what is secreted by the anterior pituitary and what is secreted by the posterior pituitary. (hint only two come from the posterior pituitary. Think PP for postpartum and pee pee and that might lead you to oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone.) review major signs of disorders such as :chvostek sign, chadwicks sign. Acid base balance is it respiratory or metabolic in origin? You guys totally know this stuff and you will pass. think positively. Do questions everyday and rest and eat healthy and when it is time to take the test, get there early so that you can settle yourself down and take a deep breath to calm yourself and try to get out of the adrenaline rush that is sure to hit. Good luck!

Hello, I will be taking my exam July 7th for the third time. I was wondering How were you studying for it. I am doing hurst review and kaplan. I've been getting in the 70's on q bank and love the content review for hurst. Just seeking pointers because I am ready to be a Nurse. Thanks

Is HURST that great? I can't afford the Kaplan. I am reading saunders, doing the cds and the nclex3500 online.

I heard medspub was good also. Have you heard about this company.

Tell me more about HURST is it expensive?
